well I wondered that since Tirey said it was shown pure white in one scene- which, I don't think is right- I rewatched the film last night and it was only shown during night scenes.

Your right, it does not show during the day.

Well there must be a real version of this shawl, cause Cameron and the costume designers mention so many times how "every single clothing in the movie had to be created in real lifeSmiley

Perhaps that will be one of the items in the Avatar exhibit.  Smiley

Hope there'll be some Avatar merchendise at the annual Sci-Fi con in Gothenburg this year  Grin! Sadly, there weren't any last year  :'(. Maybe because the movie hadn't established itself yet (Last year's con was at the beginning of mars).

To me the shawl looks like an actual leaf that's been reduced to nothing but veins.  Wouldn't it be absolutely epxikx if that was what they actually used to scan into the computer for it?  Grin Grin Grin

Awesome thought, ma Amaya  Grin! And given the size of leaves and trees on Pandora, the shawl might be, plain simple, a whole giant leaf used as clothing  Shocked!

But it could be that natural leaf veining was actually used as the model for the pattern, which was then embroidered onto whatever filmy cloth they used.  And it is spectacularly beautiful. Cheesy

I am hoping there is a leaf like that on pandora. Although it'd have to be treated somehow so it doesn't go bad if it's going to be worn...

With something a little rubbery, I think, to make it less likely to tear...

This is what I meant.  To get that level of detail from an ordinary 'Rrta sized leaf, you might have to use electron microscopy or something.  Some of those pictures are just amazing.

You could actually use a regular microscope for the level of detail that you see on the shawl. You can even see the chloroplasts with a regular microscope sometimes Wink (sorry for the tangent)

Yay, blanket fort  Grin! Just the thought of it brings out the 6-year-old in you  Grin!

Seriously though, to the Na'vi it may not be more than a ceremonial garment, but to us humans it could also be used as a very warming blanket. However, if Mo'at would lend me it, i would make sure she washed it first. Otherwise it would probably smell like smoke and perfume  Grin!

Speaking of which: Do you think Na'vi use perfume or something similar to make themselves smell better?

Me too. It looks so comfy  Smiley. Kinda like a bathrobe. However, since i am (and all humans are) too small, i thought i might get an alternative use of it. Just a fun thought  Grin.

I don't think the Na'vi would use anything... if they do, it'd be a natural scent, so it wouldn't overpower you. Tongue

I'd wear it as a cape Cheesy
