Would you have a problem if they weren't actually killing anyone? I mean if they were just a mechanic or a technician. Even oh so noble Grace Augustine was employed by the RDA.  Roll Eyes

There's several different species, mostly nocturnal I think. So you don't see them very often. Also there's 8 foot octopi. But this is off-topic, so if you're still curious about PNW wildlife, PM me. Or google it.  Wink

Regarding Grace. I think sometimes people have to partner with the Devil, to do good things. I am hoping that more of this is revealed in the next movies to come.

As far as 'killing anyone'? Look back on history, all occupations. Every single one is a military force to fortify the civilian or slave population left behind to harvest whatever resources that the force was sent to gather.

America is a perfect example. As is Central and South America. The Spanish and the English treated the domestic inhabitants as inferior. Clearly pointed out in Avatar with the constant reference to 'Blue Monkeys'.

That depends. If they didn't kill or harm anyone but would still deforest Pandora, i'd still hate them for their polluting and disturbing of Pandora's natural balance. And don't underestimate mechanics and technicians. Remember, Oppenheimer was a technician, and he completed the atomic bomb  Shocked!

Hmm... Interesting  Smiley. But i do agree with you: This is way off topic. Just one question: What's ``PNW´´  Huh?

Literally ANY invention to come down the pipeline can be taken by the local nations government and if it has the ability to be militarized, it will. Whether that is a machine, some form of engineering or even something as simple as super glue or duct tape (both invented in World War One to stop bleeding of open wounds.)

Actually I was talking about how, she snapped over the fact that if your not killing anything would it still be a problem, I have NO idea what hes talking about? But If you cut down a tree thats still killing life, it may not speak or voice its opinion on you cutting it down but it does contain life, and life has an essance-- there for you would be killing the tree, the shrubs, the growth around the tree... hell I even believe that my grass in my back yard screams at the sight of my foot coming down on it... Though you cant hear it, I feel it sub-consciencely. Life tries to repare the disease that humans have caused, and when it does we just cut it back. Ivy growing up a electric line, we trim it... A tree over hanging a house, we cut it back.... and grass growing in cracks in the rode, we tare it up and pave right over it again... Its just how the earth is trying to save its self, and we slowly kill her. It stings me in the chest everytime I think about it.....

Though I find it sad when a tree or an open space is removed to make way for a building or some other construction. I know it is progress. That is the problem.

Just last night on Facebook I saw one of those pictures with words that read something close to what I am writing below:

When a person destroys somebody else property it is called vandalism.

When a person destroys nature, it is called progress.

I have to point out that your mention of ivy is a perfect example of an invasive species from England, much like the blackberries we all enjoy every summer. Both are aggressive and invasive and destructive. Just saying.

I invite you to find on your TV listings or perhaps on www.history.com , a program called 'Life After Man'. It goes into how nature takes back things like cities, farms, bridges, monuments and so forth. How long it will take for certain locations to be completely overtaken by the forests and deserts of the world.

Really  Huh? All occupations  Huh?! What about carpenters building a church, for example  Huh? That's not a slave- or military occupation  Undecided.

I wouldn't say the people working for the RDA constantly referred to ``blue monkeys´´. AFAIK that term was only used once in the movie. I get your point, though. ``Savages´´, however, was used much more frequently. The way Parker talked about them made it almost sound like he was talking about pestilence; Nothing but an annoying decease that needs to be wiped out.

You've got a good point on the invention-statement. Interesting facts about the super glue and duct tape, too  Smiley.

Well; Define progress  Undecided. Or, more importantly: Progress in what way  Huh?

I've seen that image too. There's indeed a lot of truth in it.

And that program, Life After Man, sounds very interesting  Smiley. I'm very fascinated by the process of which man-made things are overgrown after humans abandon them. Maybe i'll check it out sometime  Smiley.

I snapped? I had no idea I was snapping.  Grin

I wouldn't say that everything ever was done by slave labor. Pioneers building a log cabin for example. And slavery in the Americas existed long before Europeans got there.

I'm not sad when a tree leaning over a house gets cut down. Usually they're cut because they're dying or dangerous. But when an entire ecosystem or a species is eradicated? Yeah, not so great. That's not progress, it's looking at a short-term goal.

Oh I know slavery is the second longest occupation and practice of this species... right behind prostitution. ANYways...

Think about those log cabins. Those pioneer days. Now think John Wayne westerns, or Revolutionary War, or Civil War. All the Forts built to protect those areas.

New materials are developed, they are used to fortify a population, city walls, battlements. Castles. Granted all construction is not meant for war, but much can be utilized in its practice. Now a days it is not breaching city walls or castle towers. It is urban warfare. Entire wars can be fought inside a multi story concrete tower, floor to floor, room to room.

Think SeaBees. These boys were the construction guys of World War One and Two. They captured beachheads and constructed defenses and air strips so that Allied troops could at first make passing hits at the enemy and later, exact fatal blows to them. Whether in the Pacific with the Marines in island hopping campaigns, or in Italy, France and Germany against the pure Evil of the Nazi's.

If a person today develops a weapon. Especially if it is explosive or powerful such as a new warhead or type of rifle. Defenses such a Kevlar. Bullet Proof glass. Think of all our outdoor stuff like GorTex or tents or boots or belts. Much of these items are tested by military. Things like mountain climbing equipment.

Did you know you can thank World War One for the colors of our cars now a days? Before the war all vehicles were default black. After the war, with all the camo colors left behind they needed to use them somewhere, so off to Ford they went.

It's really quite interesting.

As far as your comment about progress. I completely agree. Trees loom over houses and get rot and other things, that's nature, I get that... but here in Portland for example, a city that prides itself on public transportation, is in the process of beginning construction on a 1.5 billion dollar 5 mile line from Portland to Milwaukie and they will be removing over 1000 over 100 year old trees from peoples yards to make way for the rail line.

That to me is sad. There are plenty of other routes that would suffice without needing to do that. Oh well. IT is done.

Damn, this English language with it's huge similarities between positive and negative words  Angry:

What i meant to say was:

There, fixed  Tongue.

Well, i guess the term ``slave labor´´ is very relative  Undecided. I'm sure some people working in offices today consider their work to be slavery  Undecided.

I believe that, like animals, trees can come into a state of misery that it's best to relieve them off, although i guess it would be hard to judge if the tree is in such a miserable state, since it can't talk or convey emotion in any other way  Undecided.

Yeah, what's with all this fancy talk about ``progress´´, anyway  Huh? One man's progress may be taking a step back to another.

Trees DO get distressed. I have watched several many hundreds of years old fir trees wither and die back a few feet at a time starting at the top and slowly working down. They removed a few from next to MilGard Windows just a couple years ago. I suspect root rot there since it was 4 trees as opposed to one.

The other is on the way into town and has been gradually dying back over the last 20 years. The property owner just recently took the top off the tree to the dead line.

I am noticing this a LOT more often lately along highways and near major traffic areas.

Now I see what you mean about slave labor. I thought you meant every little shack ever.   Grin

I think it's odd that they're removing old-growth trees. I thought they were protected. Anyways, cutting old growth forests annoys me. They're so old and historical. I like to look at old trees and think, "I bet Chief Joseph touched this tree!" Probably not, but still.  Roll Eyes Besides they're supposed to be good for spotted owls or some other endangered creature. I'm not the type to chain myself to a tree for hours (bark's so scratchy) but I get why people do it in these situations.

Sorry. I should have been more clear. No, these are the old trees planted when the neighborhoods of the 1920's and older were put in. The trees that have grown up, lifted sidewalks and even eased up and over the curb and into the street. The ones with the base that is like as big as a one car garage. The huge maple and oak deciduous.

Same principle as "lets feed the trees to the chainsaws." How horrible... Shocked Sad

I can completely relate, I use to be a logger, it was pittiful- we were sometimes order to clear a whole forest to stumps. I'm no longer a logger, and damn is that a relief  Angry. I hated my job, but Im not afraid of hights anymore Tongue. I felt bad so bad after we clear cutted, and they wouldnt even let us plant to repopulate, they just pushed on friendly  Roll Eyes. I quit my job after we had a near miss on the site, someone nearly got squished by a tree-top-- I REALLY THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD!! But then I saw his head pop out from under the tree limbs as I asked him "ARE YOU OK?" and he said "KAY?"--and since all I know right now is English and a little Na'vi... You could probably understand how furious I was. Im not racist, I just dont know spanish and they think because Im Indian that I do, you want to sing songs of nature in Apache, lets dance! Anyhow I quit that day... I never went back either, I feel much better  Cheesy now that I can further my forest with black-walnut and watch them grow... Its like traquil  Wink, you know.... I still hold a bunch of guilt though because I know, I will never replace all those trees I cut down in those years  :'(.... But I try by replanting, and that makes me happy Smiley... Im up by nearly five-thousand, four-hundred and seventy-eight trees... I plant one nearly every day since I quite from logging.... sometimes two if its a good day... I never forget though, the emptyness I feel when I'm standing in a field of stumps left behind from trees that dissappeared  :'( because of me and the crew...  I only have one thing to say  Lips sealed, Ewya knows Karma 'cause they took a leg because of the pain I caused the planet  Grin... I hold nothing back though, I still plant everyday  Tongue...
