I was just saying you can use (code) to physically show how to type out featured of BBCode for people thy don't know how.

Yes, I like that tag.

Spirit blue, do you have anything to add or refine on this raw idea? Being a mod, do you have any idea of how to get something like this started?

be sure to use the
Code:
[you]
tag as often as possible. it is hilarious.

aint that right ma [you]

so basically you want a little "LN forum fpi ayskxawng" document so noobz and such can more easily and quickly get into it...I like the idea.

LOL Do you know how much that freaked me out the first time I saw it?   Grin

Would everyone be interested in this? Would anyone know what kind of format it would be in?
Sounds like a good idea to me. As for format, maybe it should be a .pdf, especially if there is a lot of info. That way you can have a table of contents and it wouldn't be a wall of text.

plus if it was PDF, it is searchable. Grin

Uh so from waht i understand, you want a little doc covering the hotspots to find certain Often sought after info, plus where to find which kinds of topics, forum rules and such...

That actually sounds good. I suppose I can let ideas gather and refine in here until it is ready to be implemented, and then I can maybe mention it to the mods or something so that it can be available on the main site or whatever.

I really think it's a great idea.  I sometimes find it difficult to figure out where something is or how to do something.

I agree and notice this can be an issue. I'll see what I can do when I have more time. Smiley

So! Thus it begins.
As of now, this three can be used to discuss topics you would like to see, and what you could add to.

SB, yes, theoretically, it would be as you described plus maybe a more informal version of "rules", and a compiled user advice area. It would be first started off of ideas from users, veterans, mods, anyone, and compiled into one.

I'm glad I had this idea!

well, it IS a good idea that I think many newcomers and relatively new people could use. perhaps even I could find it interesting as I have always been heavily biased toward only going to the Learn Na'vi (the language part) of the forum. I know there is some epic stuff out there

So, more distribution towards the physical working of the site instead of it being in the informational and learning part...
Good idea.

I was stating that perhaps it could have sort of a time-saving directory. and maybe even i could use it to find topics of discussion that I like outside the Na'vi language learning boards.

The only reason I think there is a point to a directory type thing is that there are Many boards with child boards and many topics to be discovered because this forum has grown a lot. but then again, I dont think that the organization of the forum is that bad that one cannot find anything. there is also the search function.

I like threads like the one project thread that compiles links to all the major recent projects. perhaps a link to such threads would be useful for this directory.

I like the idea of a compilation of tips and tricks, things about SMF that people new to forums wouldn't know and might find useful.

SO for the formatting of this:

will it be PDF, any other type of document, a web page?

It could be any format you listed or any format in general. I was mabye thinking of a Wikia free wiki, so that many could collaborate, but I could really be any format that gets the job done right.

Personally I think that a PDF is the best idea.  Perhaps a page instead.  But a page would be harder to maintain.  Someone would have to have access to change it and actually be ABLE to change it.  I know it's been a while since I did any coding like that.

with a PDF you could just upload a new PDF when you have a change.

I'm not sure that a wiki is really a good idea.  You don't want people putting stuff up there that is wrong.
