I realize that we have many resources designed towards beginners for learning the language, but how much do we have for using the site? My vision would be a "handbook" created by users for users. In the general rule threads, there us a lot of info said because it needs to be said, and it is very formal. This kind of idea would be more of an informal guide, consisting of advice for new users, warnings, posting tips, learning tips, general info about LN and where to go for certain help on subjects, etc... Huh

This idea is crude, but maybe the community could help refine it? What format would be used? Would it be one thread? Are there things you an add to the idea, or parts that could be changed? Are there any existing projects similar to this one we could build on? I would like as much feedback as possible... Thanks. Grin

i think thats a good idea.
even the veterans don't know every corner of the forum i guess. It must be difficult for newbies to find one's way.

As for projects there are some examples.

there is a project overview (not up to date i think):
http://forum.learnnavi.org/projects/current-projects-database/

and i made these 2 overviews:
http://forum.learnnavi.org/projects/navify-software/
http://forum.learnnavi.org/navify-the-web/navify-the-web/

i think the best would be to start with a list and categorization.
when the list is complete enough you could write something like a guide to tell new member what to start with.

Ok, great!
This is a great thing.
I need a little more feedback from other users, but so far, so good.

Would anyone have any categories?
I could think of... Navigating the forum, People of interest, good posting and thread making tips, general advice... It really depends on how interested everyone is.

Any other ideas?

Help for all the [ ] commands in the messages would be really great.  I still have yet to figure out how exactly to do a spoiler.  I know there's a button for it, but

Did that actually work?

HRH apparently it did.  Well I figured that one out.  Now there's only about 800 others I need to figure out.

-forum software usage (if you haven't already meant that with navigation)
-evoluttion of the language & history of the forum (for example: where the new language come from (Karyu Pawl of cause), how they find their way into the learning material, how this has been in the past, what Pawl's intensions are and so on)

All great ideas.

Would everyone be interested in this? Would anyone know what kind of format it would be in?
I can send a message to a moderator to see if this would work...

I'm interested, absolutely. It would be especially helpful if it gave people directions on how to put in images.....I've gotten several requests from users wanting to know how, and I'm sure there are more out there.

Oh, and just a tip for those trying to figure out how to do a function on the forum....if you see something in a post that you want to learn how to do, just quote the person. In the quote you can usually pick apart how they did it. That's how I learned......

If anyone knows the code function,

It preserves the original text instead of BBCode.

So this...
Code:
[color=red]red[/color]

turns out like this...

red

The code feature looks like this...
Code:
[code]_[code ]
You can use it to show how to use various features.

Would y'all like a section on BBCode?[/code]

Unfortunalely, some problems that conflict with BBcode arise, particularly when fko wants to use IPA...

E.g. I have to write {x} to avoid
  • , or {i} to avoid the indicator for bold text.

BBCode aside, does anyone think a "by users for users" compiled advice guide be beneficial in any way? How could we get this kind of thing started?

I also believe it would be quite useful.  I know I was a bit confused when I first started using the forums.

be sure to use the
Code:
[you]
tag as often as possible. it is hilarious.

aint that right ma [you]

so basically you want a little "LN forum fpi ayskxawng" document so noobz and such can more easily and quickly get into it...I like the idea.
