Being scientific doesn't make one immune to fault or corruption of the self.

She was depressed from the loss of Sylwanin and the loss of her connection to the tribe.  It was a more personal loss.  More so than she likely ever had to face on earth because of being heavily bound to the bureaucratic mechanics of working for a large company.
