In the new release of iOS (4.2) Apple removed the "ì" character from the keyboard.  This now makes it completely impossible to search properly since searching with a normal "i" removes entries that have an "ì" char in them.  Why oh why Apple did you decide to remove the grave accented i from your keyboard but yet you keep all the extra forms of "a" and "e" as is.  I'm normally a pretty hefty supporter of all things Apple, but WTF, seriously Apple, you had nothing better to do than down size the special characters section of the keyboard?

I think the only way around this is going to be to modify the search function so that it can not distinguish between an "i" and "ì" characters.  This is so freaking annoying...

Thanks to Omängum Fra'uti, I am now aware of the use of wildcards when searching in the Learn Na'vi App.  There are 2 wildcards available, "_" is a single character wildcard, and "%" is a multi-character wildcard.

You can get your ì back if you turn your keyboard to for example a Spanish one... but in German you got the problem that you can't tip ß anymore

It isn't good for searching, but also not if you want to write something nìna'vi... did anyone find a better solution than to change the keyboard?

I installed the new iOS 4.3 beta that came out this past week, and the ì char is available again.  Hopefully that will stay in for the GM build...

GM = Gold Master, its the term Apple uses for all software builds that are final and are to be released to the public.  As for release date, no idea.  Apple sometimes announces the dates, but most of the time its a highly guarded secret.  As for cost, it should be free, at least all updates since 3.0 have been free as far as I can remember...
