Been busy working on dynamic sigbars again...here's my latest.

This time around I've created a bar that displays the Na'vi Word of the Day on it :) The words are sourced from Puvomunä NWOTD Twitter feed.

Unlike the countdown bars that I made in February, these are ready-to-use :D

Sorry about the lack of options on them :( I'm working on a very large sigbar tool for summer, and options for these will come as part of that when it's finished.

Suggestions, comments, and bug reports welcome! :)

Didn't know there was a site along with the feed. Looks great! :D

Oh, and I forgot to mention this in the original release post...if you visit http://swokaikran.skxawng.lu/sigbar/nwotd.php?m=url you get the MP3 of the word :)

...which means you can make a clickable one:

Thank you! (It looks even better now, and I hope to improve it some more over time.)

Actually the site exists since (my) last night. Someone with a hearing impairment asked if this was possible, Omängum fra'uti was kind enough to share his transcripts, so setting this up was fun. And it is appreciated, the hearing impaired person already sent word:

@navi_wotd My hearing impairment thanks you both

Wow, that is really great. Thank you! :D

Okay, the image now looks weird, after sending out the household announcement that the new site is online, but that will fix itself after the next new word. ;)

And thank you for providing this nice image. I seriously love how this community pulls all kinds of nice things out of hats and sleeves, which can be put together this way.

LOL I had a feeling that would happen.

I've been wanting to do something with a WOTD for awhile myself, so this inspired me to do some coding to work with the WOTD data!

It will. If you change the format of the feed, or transmit non-NWOTD content on it, it will screw up. It expects anything it receives from twitter to be in a <WORD & DEF> <URL> format.

Looks like it has a slight problem with Unicode characters.

Unicode decoding is fixed. I used the wrong function :-[ (I used make_utf8, should have been HTML_entity_decode)

The weird spacing is due to bugs related to the behavior of GD on Linux/BSD servers. It looks fine if generated on my Windows test server.

Since it's caused by the server, it's not something I can correct. :(

May I ask which version of PHP you are running on the development server?

It's version 5.3.1...build date is November 2009. (The dev server is running XAMPP 1.7.3)

That's probably the "issue" then. Apparantly a bug appeared in PHP 5.3.2, that is running on my server.Upgrading the PHP version may solve this.. but I'll look at that at a later point.

Some unnecessary stats: The image is accessed about 600 times per day, draining 16-20 MB of data per day.

Was thinking it was a bug...thanks for looking into it :)

Always wondered how much it was accessed. I've been too lazy to add statistics-tracking code, and it's horribly inefficient to download my (large) access log and count off the relevant the lines (even with a script) :P Thanks for that :)

Meaning the image is about 26KB per xfer. Not bad.

And yes, I love the sigbar. I use it in my sig on the forum as well as on http://naviwotd.nlpagan.net/ :)

The base image is 24KB, so that's about right. It gets larger going through GD.

Unfortunately, even with the tiny xfer size, there is often noticeable lag loading them from the USA (probably due to the server being in Sweden). I think I need a USA server (haven't had any success finding one.)

that is so awesome. added on my signature.
question: does it have only beginner words or all words that are in the language?
from what I've seen there are only those 37 words here. you should add all others too.

The reason there's only 37 words is because the feed's only been around for 37 days. #38 will come around tomorrow.

As for which words are used, I think it includes all of them, but you'd need to ask Puvomun about that. He's the one responsible for choosing the words. You can ask him about it in his thread.
