Why is it in the movie that Neytiri always pronounces Tsahaylu as tsaheylu? just wondering if it is individual actor mispronunciation, or a word misspelling.

hmm, you're right, there seem to be mixed messages from the sources

taronyu would know. I'm sure he'll see this thread

tsaheylu is right though, i'm sure of it. tsahaylu is probably a typo, since ay is how we would normally spell the ey sound

i posed the same question, but got the answer that is 'tsahaylu' Smiley

i conjured a little theory (if it is tsahaylu) - when neytiri says it, she is addressing jake, but in english:) english approximation of 'tsahaylu' would be similar to 'tsaheylu'. (as in 'kunsip' - gunship).

of course, maybe that theory is complete nonsense:)

however, it could be
-tsahaylu, but neytiri is saying it 'in english' because she is addressing jake
-tsahaylu, but zoe saldana is not pronouncing it correctly (this would seem odd to me, as i think that the actors were under the watchful eye of dr frommer)
-tsaheylu, but the unofficial documents are wrong

Quote from: Taronyu's Dictionary
tsaheylu: [ţahEjlu] S n. bond (changed
from tsahaylu, for phonetic reasons) T

Yes. The reason there are mixed messages is because I made them. Tsaheylu is how it would pronounced. I figure that this is another case, like neu or new, where Frommer edited the text so as to make the english-speaking actors pronounce it correctly. In any case, the spelling of the Guide is in question, and it makes much more sense to follow the movie than them, in this case. So, I've changed it to Tsaheylu.

Well spotted! Questions?

All of the printed guides have it printed the other way.  But I agree, her pronunciation is reason to suspect there needs to be an update.

Yeah, there's a bunch of things Taronyu changed but I agree with what he's changed them too since, until we have the full info, half the stuff we're doing is educated guesses. I guess just keep in mind that things may(will) change at some point so plan accordingly.

I would think that using 'ay' could confuse the infix for future tense even though it misses the conventional position for it.

Yeah. No one has brought any serious allegations against my derivations so far, so I just sort of did all I could. I figure it's information, sometimes useful to understanding a word. Also, I'm of the camp, small though it be, that for this language to live, the people have to grab hold of it themselves. That means it needs to change.

In a blessed fashion from Frommer preferably.
