Kaltxì ma eylan!
Here is information for connecting to, and using the LearnNavi.org Internet Relay Chat (IRC) server:
Server: irc.learnnavi.org Channel/Room: #Na'vi
Use the LearnNavi.org Java WebChat Client: To use the LearnNavi Java webchat client, go to http://www.learnnavi.org/irc/. You will connect to the server and to the #Na'vi IRC chat channel automatically with a generic Frrtu ("Guest" nìNa'vi) nickname. You can change your nick from Frrtu to something else by typing /nick NICKNAME, where NICKNAME can be whatever you want (note, ì and ä cannot be used in IRC nicknames). Once you are connected and have your nickname changed, you can use the IRC services (described below) to register your account so that you will always have access to your nickname. Remember, you will always have to change your nick to your chosen one each time you connect, because the Java webchat client resets to the default "Frrtu" nickname every time you use it. If want to join additional channels, type '/join #CHANNEL' (where CHANNEL = is the channel you want to join) Please note that if you get a Java connection error that looks like "Unable to connect : java.security.AccessControlException : access denied", make sure that you are not behind a firewall that blocks outbound access to TCP port 6667 (the IRC port).
Use Your Own IRC Application: If you wish, you can download an IRC client application directly to your computer. A popular one for PC is mIRC. You can download it at http://www.mirc.com. Install and run. Type /server irc.learnnavi.org to connect to the IRC network server. Then type /join #na'vi to join the chat room. It's pretty easy to use and has good documentation under the Help menu option. mIRC has some powerful scripting facilities that can be used to automate logging in to the IRC services or for channel management. Details on scripting are beyond the scope of this tutorial, so check the mIRC application docs for more info. There are other clients for Macs and Linux, so Google around to see what's available. For our more advanced internetworking technophiles, note that the server also accepts connections on port 1080 in case you are at a location that restricts access to the normal IRC 6667 port. Just user '/server irc.learnnavi.org 1080' instead. The server's IP address is 96.44.162.19 in case you need to use the numeric IP address to connect for any reason.
IRC Services: There are three services on the server that can make your IRC experience much easier. They are USERSERV, NICKSERV and CHANSERV. First thing you want to do is create an account on USERSERV. Once you connect, simply type '/msg userserv register NAME PASSWORD' where NAME is the name you want to use for your account (up to 10 chars) and PASSWORD is something easy for you to remember. This establishes your account on the IRC services. Your nickname on the LearnNavi.org IRC server can be reserved for your use with the NICKSERV service. Type'/msg nickserv register' to attach your current nickname to your account (you can register multiple nicknames to a single account). You only have to do these two steps once, since the server will remember you. Then, next time you connect, simply type '/msg userserv login NAME PASSWORD' and the server will recognize you. If someone else has grabbed your nickname, just type '/msg nickserv regain NICKNAME' and the nickserv service will dump their connection and recover your nickname for you. If you have created a personal channel on the server, you can use the CHANSERV service to manage it. For more information on what commands are available on CHANSERV, just type '/msg chanserv help' for a listing of the channel management commands. Most people will prefer to stay on the officially established channels and won't really need CHANSERV at all.
Messages from Eywa: When you connect and join the channel #Na'vi, you will automatically get a message from Eywa with any news or announcements from the LearnNavi administrators. Also, please note that Eywa records all public messages on the channels she is watching (which is most of them).
Some of the Most Popular Chat Channels:
- #Na'vi (English)
- #Na'vi_de (Deutsch)
- #Na'vi_pl (Polish)
- #Navi_fr (French)
- #Navi-niaw (Ayoeng nìNa'vi pivlltxe mì fitsenge! - ONLY Na'vi spoken here!)
- #Avatar (Discussion topics about the movie)
Please note that LearnNavi.org has been recognized by (although is not affiliated with) 20th Century Fox, who owns the rights to the movie Avatar. Because of this, we are striving very hard to maintain a piracy-free environment, so please do not discuss availability, or offer to make available any copyrighted materials via the IRC server.
We hope you enjoy this service and if you have any questions, please send me a private message. Ngaru fpom ulte Eywa ngahu! - Markì
