OK, here's another keyboard layout, this time for the phonologically inclined Na'vi-learner. It's based off of the US (non-Int'l) keyboard, but I can probably do it for any other layout if someone should request nicely. :D

Features
Write English, Na'vi and IPA (Na'vi-only) characters using a single layout! That's about it, really...

Layout
ä = RAlt + a
ì = RAlt + i
Ä = RAlt + Shift + a (i.e. Shift + ä)
Ì = RAlt + Shift + i (i.e. Shift + ì)
 ̚   (unreleased glyph) = RAlt + ~ (i.e. the key to the left of '1')
æ = RAlt + q
ɛ = RAlt + e
ʊ = RAlt + u (if you want to be totally IPA, you use this in diphthongs instead of [w])
ɪ = RAlt + l (i.e. L)
ŋ = RAlt + n
ʔ = RAlt + ? (i.e. /)
' (ejective glyph) = RAlt + ' (i.e. apostrophe)

Installation
Unpack the zip file. Run setup.exe. Wait. Enjoy! :D
After installation it will show up in the Add/Remove Programs... menu – double click to remove it.

Compatibility
This is for Windows 2000 or better (according to the program I created it with.) I am using it with XP, and it works fine.

Warning
You need an app - such as the LN forum - that can handle Unicode for some of the IPA chars to display properly!

DISCLAIMER
Use at your own risk! No support, no warranty of any kind, and absolutely no compassion is offered in case anything unforeseen, unwanted, or irreversible happens to you or your computer while using this layout.

edit: I wish I hadn't forgotten to attach the file...

Only mostly AWOL.

No, they're not.

Sure, I can do that. If you want the same layout I'll have to overwrite some accented RAlt chars (like á & é). Just confirm you're OK with that, or tell me what you want different.

Also, are you using UK or UK Extended?

Uk 101 key extended - which is what is supplied to most people with their PC.

Here. I haven't tested it, so let me know if something doesn't work right. The layout isn't identical to the US one due to some reserved keys. Changes:

 ̚   (unreleased glyph) = RAlt + . (dot)
' (ejective glyph) = RAlt + , (comma)

I also overwrote some weird accented chars on i, a, and e, let me know if you miss them. :D

This is my 25th post - hope I can now give you a Karma point.
You deserve it.
Just what I needed to be able to use the full English alphabet and Na'vi w/o changing.
THANKS a bunch !!
There, a cookie, you earned it.

It does work great.
Question:  my Presario w/ Vista Home Premium has twice changed the keyboard output.
OR
I may have pressed some magic key combo.

Twice when pressing the rt alt + a to get ä, I got the regular a
OR some other alt + combo, don't remember which, actually.
Point is, I did not get the unusual character, got the regular one.
I save & close down the Word doc.
Then I go to the Regional & Lang... > Keyboards... > Change keyboards >
arrow up then down to get Apply to be available > enter > enter.
Now, restart Word, then it's fine.

Just a small little glitch.  FYI   Still love it !!

ftia, do you have other layouts installed? Could it be that you accidentally switched? (If both are EN then you would see no change on the language bar.)

No way that I know of to switch kybds inside Word '07.
I am in a long, complicated Word doc.
Used to teach MS Office classes.
Just tonight happened at least 5 times in 2 hrs
I use keyboard shortcuts extensively.
Must be hitting some magic key combo.
I have set up an icon on desktop.
Close Word > click icon > Change > reopen doc
                                 (Change does not mean the kybd assignment changed.
                                  It still says "English (United States) - NA-US-IA")
Got it down to less than a min. but still irritating.
thx

HA !
I finally caught it!
Am using Office 2007.
In Word, I lose the character ability (alt key combos) when I go to the next page !!!

But not every time.

WWWHHHHHYYYYY????
thanks for listening to me whine.
Hopefully this will help you diagnose.
thx

Beats me. :-\ But I'm certain it's not the layout, but Word causing all the trouble. I remember having a the same problem with Word 2007 with two layouts for the same language. One way to work around this would be to remove all other layouts (unless you use them, of course) from under EN. You can do this by right clicking on the language indicator (EN) and selecting Settings... from the context menu. In the next window you'll see all your installed languages and the kb layouts assigned to each of them. Delete everything but NA-US-IPA from under EN. You might have to reboot, but at any rate, restart Word. That should do it.

If you need multiple layouts then you're out of luck. Google around for solutions for Word, but don't get your hopes high. Sorry I can't be of more help.

This is really helpful! And it works fine on Windows 7 :)

MS Word is about as all-encompassing as the RDA  :D I'm kind of surprised by the fact the keyboard layouts change when you change pages, but then again, I am not. One possible solution I could suggest is trying OpenOffice. www.openoffice.org It is free, does almost everything Office does, and a few things it won't.
