Comparison with verbs other than "lu"

So, we have the paradigm for comparisons as:

A to B lu ADJ
A is ADJ-er than B

And for the superlative (as far as I undestood it) as:

A frato lu ADJ
A is ADJ-er than all ~ A is the ADJ-est

Do you think that this construction can also be used for comparisons other than with "to be"? As in:
"he runs faster than I" - the problem I see is that it can't be an adjective any longer, can it?
