Don't know if this is the right wording...  :-\

I was wondering how one would use numbers to convey the idea of listing...

For me, there is a difference whether I say,
one lesson, two lessons, ..., five lessons
first, second, ..., fifth lesson
or
Lesson 1, Lesson 2, ..., Lesson 5

I was so absorbed with the usage of Irish counting (where a simple a is used to convey simple numbering instead of counting) that I automatically used

sänumvi a'aw

... but that really means »one lesson« (and not necessarily »lesson one«)

So, how to go about it? – I realise, one alternative is to say »first lesson« sänumvi a'awve / 'awvea sänumvi

Well, the 'awve method certainly seems fine.  In some languages, there's a special way of doing this—like in English, technically you would say "Lesson number one," but we frequently drop that "number" part.  I'm pretty sure that's the method some other languages use, too.

There's holpxay, but that may only refer to cardinal numbers (quantities), not ordinal numbers.

The 'awve, muve ... has my sword.

I reckon that the numbers would only be used to denote quantity and, describing them as the first lesson, second lesson etc. makes more sense anyway.
