Big topic 'o Audio Clips
« on: December 22, 2009, 11:43:55 pm »
Specifically, clips from the movie, from Frommer, or from Cameron or the Actors.

Ideally this topic would become a quick repository of various phrases or lines from the movie, which would be listed in this post.  The discussion would then be used to help transcript/correct/speculate on lines from the movie,

Frommer:
Kaltxì, ma Renee.

"Hello renee."
Oel ngati kameie.
I see you.
ngaru lu fpom srak?
Are you well?
Tsun oe ngahu pivängkxo a fì’u oeru prrte’ lu.
Its a pleasure to be able to chat with you."

---
(when jake is initially captured, and Neytiri and Tsu'tey converse)
Neytiri / Tsu'tey
Neytiri: mawey, na'vi-yä, mawey.  ma tsu'tey kempe si nga?

"Calm, my people, calm. Tsu'tey, what are you doing?

Tsu'tey: fì-vrrtep fìtsenge lu kxanì!
this demon this place is forbidden
"This demon is forbidden here!"

Neytiri: aungia lu! Tsahik-tu, txele lu.

Sign to be! Matriarch for matter
There was a sign! This is a matter for the Matriarch

tsu'tey: zamunge
Bring (jake)

---

Mo'at  (to jake, when he was brought back after meeting Neytiri)
Tsatsul viräti lonu! Aynga nitxuri rikx! Fìketuwongti oel stìyeftxaw

Release that person, spread. You (to jake) strongly move! This alien I will examine.

---

Neytiri (to jake, when he warns of hometree's destruction)
Kawkrr! Krr slayu nga na'viyä hapxì!
Never! time become you people's part!
Never! ever! will you become one of the people!

Nice find.  If nobody beats me to it I'll see if I can transcribe that tomorrow so people can get read it along and see how it's pronounced.

I was able to pick up small bits like Oel hu Txewì trr... (I with Txewì day...) and later tute spivangko (could kill a person) and Oe omum (I know) though that was a little run together.

The audio has captions in the webpage.

- Yesterday I was with Txewì in the forest and we saw the biggest Trapper I've ever seen. Those things are dangerous.
- They can kill a person, you know.
- I know. We were careful not to get too close.

I'm Lovin' it! :D

This one almost completely exists on the Wikipedia-Article, at leasts taken apart in pices there, I almost got every thing until I found this.
Now check it out, I have recomposed it for you:

Oe-huTxewìtrr-amna’rìng-mitarmok.

Yesterday I was with Txewì in the forest,...

see‹pfv›trap?-person-accattr-bigevery-thanin-nmz-live
"...(and we) saw the biggest Trapper I've ever seen" (lit. 'in (my) life')

The next one can not be found and that is what I got (picked up, interpreted...):
’u( )folehrrap
those thingsdangerous
Those things are dangerous.
"those" I have had to synthesize from ayfo/mefo (fo as a part of a demonstrative pronoun) and different occurrences of ’u as "thing".

tsuntute-ttspivangko

"They can kill a person, you know."

I know. We(excl) were careful not to get too close.

Tsakem lu kem. (That is it. ?)

Mo'at

Aynga ni tureeveek!
you ------------------------  < only got you plural outta it.

What is said here is:

Aynga neto rivikx!

    ay-nga    ne-to    r‹iv›ikx
    pl-you    to-away    move‹sjv›

    "(Everyone) step back!"

To get to 'ampi well steftxaw...
touch??        examine      again, no idea except for one word. gotta watch the subtitles again.

I'm not exactly sure what is being said here, but by your transcription I can offer some opinions.

To get to = Tokx eltu

tokx - body
eltu - mind

So maybe something like: Tokx eltu 'ampi oe steftxaw

I know it doesn't really make sense just all alone like that, there needs to be some grammar thrown in there, but I feel like she might be talking about examining him, and you heard the word "steftxaw", so perhaps body and mind would come into play. So try and use this as a base and see if you can come up with anything. When Mo'at speaks in this part of the movie it doesn't give subtitles so we'll just have to wing it :)

Kaltxì,

Does anyone know the dialogue between Norm and Grace at their first meeting?

I found one website (http://www.surrealaward.com/avatar/plotlanguage.shtml) that provided the following as Norm's initial greeting.

’Awve ultxari ohengeyä, Nawma Sa’nok lrrtok siveiyi.

"May the Great Mother smile upon our first meeting."

’awve ultxa-ri ohe-nga-yä nawm-a sa’nok lrrtok s‹iv›‹ei›i
first meeting-top I.form+you-gen great-attr mother smile make‹sjv›‹approb›

I've listened to this many times, and in the movie, Norm definitely uses sa’atenuk (or something close to it) instead os Sa'nok

Not sure where you're getting that from, it most certainly sounds like sa'nok to me.
