EDIT: Here is the compiled download of all the audio we could access: http://www.archive.org/compress/FrommerSpokenNavi

Original post:[/b]

I'm compiling a list of audio clips with Paul Frommer speaking Na'vi words and phrases as an aid to pronunciation for beginning learners.  I could use the help of audio-savvy folks on the forum.

I have a list of the canonical audio clips of Frommer speaking, along with canonical Na'vi transcriptions.  But those clips are embedded in the larger audio sources of the interviews.  I'd like to isolate Frommer's Na'vi, so that beginners can play those parts over and over again while following along with the written transcriptions.  If you've got leet audio skills, I'd ask for your assistance in clipping out just the good bits.

Here's the list:

http://www.vanityfair.com/online/oscars/2009/12/brushing-up-on-navi-the-language-of-avatar.html
Vanity Fair interview - audio clip is partway down the page
Kaltxì. Ngaru lu fpom srak?
"Hello. How are you?" (literally: "Are you well?")
This one is already isolated, but I can't figure out how to get the URL for just the audio clip.  Can you?

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=121350582
National Public Radio interview
1:09 - Kaltxì, ma Renee. Oel ngati kameie. Ngaru lu fpom srak? Tsun oe ngahu pivängkxo a fì'u oeru prrte' lu.
"Hello, Renee. I See you. Are you well? It's a pleasure to be able to chat with you."
1:24 - Kame nga. (Is that correct? Do we actually have a canonical transcription of the short form?)
"I See you." (short form)

[HD] Avatar - Na'vi Language Creation
ABC News Nightline segment
2:44 - Fayvrrtep fìtsenge lu kxanì.
"These demons are forbidden here."
3:55 - Tsun oe ngahu pivängkxo a fì'u oeru prrte' lu.
"It's a pleasure to be able to chat with you."

http://www.scpr.org/programs/patt-morrison/2009/12/22/the-language-of-avatar/
Southern California Public Radio interview
1:24 - Kaltxì.
"Hello."
10:47 and 11:03 - meoauniaea
One of Frommer's favorite Na'vi words - English meaning not yet defined
13:17 - Kìyevame.
"See you again"
13:23 - Eywa ngahu.
"Eywa be with you."

Please help!  Clip out the segments listed above and upload them someplace where the whole world can fetch them (perhaps at talknavi.com?).  Attaching them to a post here isn't ideal, since you have to be logged in to the forum to download files, but if you don't have access to anyplace else, attach them here and maybe someone else can upload them elsewhere.

Also, if anyone spots an error in the transcriptions (or translations), please call me out!

Irayo! I thank you, and your fellow learners thank you!

Wow, thanks! :)

One more for the list:

PBS Newshour interview
Oel ngati kameie.
"I See you."

The audio quality isn't great, but it's still a clip worth having for instructional purposes.

I've have put all the audio bits together, hope they help.

Also, I was unable to get the audio from the vidios, mostly because my editing software is not the greatest so the quality when i record it is horrible and I cannot find a way to download the videos, so sorry.
Kìyevame ulte Eywa ngahu.

Went into the source code and downloaded it

National Public Radio interview
Couldn't get this one since it's buried in a flash player. If someone downloaded the player and pulled apart the flash file they could get this but that's beyond me.

ABC News Nightline segment
Got this one

Again embeded in a flash file, couldn't get to the original file.

QuoteSouthern California Public Radio interview
Got it

I've compiled all the ones I could download here: http://www.archive.org/compress/FrommerSpokenNavi
You can download the individual files here: http://www.archive.org/details/FrommerSpokenNavi

I took the liberty of editing your original post with links to these files and changed the thread title.

I created a new post and stickied it (crediting you of course) to clean this up a bit.

Deamon - thanks, those sound great!

Ftiafpi - thanks!  For like everything - the clips, the hosting, and the new topic.  FYI - Deamon5550 was able to get the audio from the NPR interview.  If you get a chance, you might consider grabbing his .wav file attached above, clipping out the individual pieces, and adding them to the archive.

I had updated the Corpus page on the wiki to include a section for the Audio Corpus.  When the wiki comes back up, I'll add links to your sound files.

Awesome, I'll do that.

If/when you get a chance to add more isolated clips to the archive, let me know (post here) and I'll update the wiki pages with pointers to the new clips.

Thanks!

There, I updated the listing with the NPR clips. The compressed file should automatically update (same link). Here are the direct links to the new files:
