The "foley" I was referring to is the sound effects, animal calls, footsteps, gun fire, doors opening and closing, the sounds of machines and switches, airlocks, tiltrotors, and every other sound apart from voices and music.

I've trodden over precisely this ground myself a while back. the conclusion I came to back then was that, Cameron was more likely to pull it off than anyone involved in Star Wars.

Star Wars has 'Strong female characters' written with a total lack of understanding of how to write decent characters period. The movies don't follow on very well, and while there are more than a few scenes that are great scenes in isolation, they don't add up to good stories. There are so many lame plot holes it broke the suspension of disbelief for me in several places. There were also more than a few scenes where it just flet wrong, and again suspension of disbelief went out the window.

These are basic mistakes. Some simple mistakes, some deeper more fundamental mistakes.


Last time I concluded that Cameron is his own man, and knows how to fend off attempts from outside to hammer in incompatible ideas to a project. Cameron may have a reputation among some as being a colossal pain in the butt to work with, but look at his body of work (excluding Piranha II) it speaks for it self. To make the movie that makes the biggest (adjusted) box office in movie history (at the time) and then have to make the next movie, with the weight of expectation, has to be a monumentally daunting proposition. Cameron has been here before, Titanic, movie making hiatus, then Avatar, another movie making hiatus (aside from Alita: Battle Angel and Terminator: Dark Fate). The Avatar sequels are kinda just what's next on the Cameron to-do list. Cut the grass, take out trash, clean under sink, make Avatar2, clean out gutters, do laundry.

Basically, I believe that Cameron is the kind of person who can make it work. The kind of person that was sadly lacking from the recent Star Wars movies, no disrespect to J.J. Abrams or Ron Howard.
Plus Avatar is Cameron's baby, and he's right there, where as Star Wars was George Lucas's baby, and he has stepped back from it.
