He said he'd be going back to the forest too and that it'll follow Jake and Neytiri so I think we're safe.

He's said two things, its going to still follow Jake and Neytiri AND delve into the oceans, so what are we going to believe.

Maybe the Omatikaya will migrate to the coast?

Nyx

Could be. They do need a new home, but I wonder if they'd go for such a big change of environment (assuming that is a big change)... It would make things easy to explain though

:o Why didn't I think of that. Seems like a good idea, what with hometree gone...

Migrating to the coast would seem questionable to me.  Unless there was absolutely no way to remain in the forest, why would they move to an environment totally different from the one they've lived in for countless generations?  The movie shows plenty of giant trees even in the limited sections we're shown, and with Pandora's population remaining stable, it's seems like they could find something that wasn't taken.

But at the same time, moving to the coast and with all the things James has said he plans to do in the second movie, that seems like the feasible option to me.

It's not feasible if there isn't a good reason to back it up (not that it has ever stopped plenty of movie writers in the past).  He'd better work really hard to make it believable if he goes that route, because "there just isn't anything available in the forest now" isn't going to cut it.

There are plenty of potential reasons that Jake and Neytiri, and possibly some of the Omatikaya, are brought or go temporarily to the coast.  They could also go with a split movie, where it's not just the Omatikaya that are followed, but a coastal clan, and then the two storylines end up coming together.

But honestly, the Omatikaya actually moving to the coast is just about on the bottom of my list of possibilities with this.  The thought of it makes me cringe.

I think if James really wants to spin it that way, the Omatikaya will move to the coast.

..or, they move in temporarily with the Eastern Sea Ikran tribe while the leaders of the clan look for a new Hometree.

Well, the Omatikaya will do whatever Cameron says they'll do, since he's in control of the movie.  But I don't have endless faith in Cameron, or anyone for that matter, making movies.  Especially sequels.

After more thought, the only reasonable way I can think of to get the Omatikaya to permanently move to the coast would be to have Eywa send them.  That is barring the introduction of some event or information that we have no way of predicting right now, which is also possible.

Could happen, I kinda like my idea about the Eastern Sea Ikran/Omatikaya temporary uber-tribe though.

*contains urge to squee, but only barely*  OME I've been mentally playing around with the theory of "there's a ton of water on Pandora, what if there are sea creatures to bond with too?  Or possibly aquatic Na'vi?"   ;D  If we end up seeing Na'vi mermaids I will so die of happy, and do a lot of "I told you so"ing HRH

!!!!! I'm not the only one who says OME!

Aquatic Na'vi...that is the most interesting idea I've heard so far.

I think the most important thing to think about here is that JC has explicitly stated that he only wants to make a sequel if he believes it can live up to the success of the original. He doesn't want to make something that will be a letdown to Avatar fans, nor does he need to release another blockbuster for purely financial reasons (as much as 20th Century Fox would love him to).

Basically, if Avatar 2 happens, it will be a success. I don't know how much good three and a half years of anxious speculation will do if the end result is only that we become disappointed if JC comes up with a completely different plot than any of us are thinking.

One would hope that speculation will not ruin it for the person when the movie finally comes out.  No amount of speculation will change whether the movie will be good or bad.

Kätsyín te Zotxekay Tsyal’itan

Thats exactly why we are speculating. Well, at least I am. There's a way I'd like to see the film go, but right now, its only speculation.
