Hmmm..... Avatar meets The Abyss. Could be very interesting.

They filmed much of The Abyss in the containment vessel of an unfinished nuclear reactor. At the time, it was the most complex underwater film ever produced. I bet, knowing how innovative JC tends to be, that Avatar 2 will somehow beat that.

Oh, definitely.  I'd bet my tsko swizaw he will ;)

he will best that, and everyone knows it.

There could easily be some kind of ikran/dolphin hybrid for the underwater transportation. It could even do something to enable 'breathing', but unless there is some Atlantean "habitat" down there with an atmosphere, I have no idea how how there could be spoken language (relevant to human ears) of any kind. Tsaheylu could compensate for this, but then I imagine we'd have to be 'listening in' on that to understand the communication. That seems inconsistent with the audiences' relationship to the first film entirely.

Perhaps the RDA comes back and heads straight into the oceans. But, then there is a breathing problem for the Na'vi if they go down there.

I really wonder how they're going to do that, but it looks to me like a great idea :D We're definitely going to discover much much more about Pandora, and that's for me the best point of it all - along with the environmental issue (:

Human No More

I doubt Avatar 2 will be largely underwater or anything... I'ms sure there will perhaps be some underwater sequences, but the Na'vi can't really do anything in terms of underwater, and just about every underwater film made takes place on submarines, underwater bases/cities, etc (reasonable I guess as without that, there's no talking and no real character interaction)... The Na'vi have none of those places.

BTW, I saw recently via a news station that Cameron and his crew went onto those zero-gravity airplanes to experience zero-gravity... IDK how it will fit into the new movie... but this is going to be VERY interesting if he's got deep-sea exploration and zero-G experimentation going on...

Maybe a space ship will be involved...... If that is the case, it sounds like humans would still be part of the story. But that is really interesting. There are so many teasers!! :P

Am I the only one thinking that maybe they're doing some of this to have fun? I know I would... But yes, it will be interesting to see what it all leads to in the movie. I also think they'll need at least some humans to give the audience an easier time connecting with the movie, at least the part of the audience that isn't super-nerdy ^^

Bare with me here... Maybe there is some kind of plant that produces an air-like mix of gasses (perhaps just as a side effect of something more vital it does) and traps it. Come to think of it, it'd probably have to be a network of various plants. But this could create an organic kind of cave, and even though I doubt there would be any na'vi living there, maybe they go visiting such places. Or simpler, just regular caves that are filled with air but the only way down is through the water. I don't know why I went with plants first, but it would be fun to see that.

As to what's going on underwater, maybe Pandora has something like these?

I thought that was more promotional than anything else, not really specifically to do with Avatar 2 (although I guess that a zero-gravity scene could still occur, as it did at the start of Avatar anyway)

... what if Jake and Neytiri ended up in a spacecraft or something? :o

Maybe they're going to be kidnapped and shipped off to Earth! :P

I sooooo hope not.........

Earth would be hell for Neytiri.  Or the Jake for that matter.

Forests are generally full of spiders, really big spiders.

Any earth spiders taken to Pandora accidentally would die on the ISV.

Any Pandoran spiders would most likely die in the airlock. Human air is probably as toxic to Pandoran life, as Pandoran air is to terrestrial life. Probably.

Na'vi and human life both feed on oxygen, and inside the shacks, Hell's gate, and airlocks alike, they would still be likely to survive.

If you watch the background stuff in the bio lab and the shack, all plant samples are kept isolated, with gas/air pipes connected to many of them. This doesn't prove anything I know, but I feel it adds weight to the notion that the two biologies are wholly incompatible.

They both have an oxygen-based metabolism. It wouldn't be nice for one to breathe Earth air, but that's more due to pollution than anything else. A human can survive in a 100% oxygen environment (as long as there are no sources of ignition...) with no problem, carbon dioxide is not a requirement in the atmosphere. Hydrogen sulphide is toxic - the (comparative) absence of it is not going to pose a problem, and the other gases are all ones like xenon which are almost completely inert under anything other than specific extreme conditions.

That would be to provide an optimal environment - plants DO need CO2 in the atmosphere, but animals do not. It's entirely plausible that a plant might not be able to survive in a much lower concentration, but animals do not perform photosynthesis. Both ecosystems are carbon-based, oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere.
