i was gust going about the internet alittle a couple min ago, you know avatar news eta., and i found this spitting onto my face

QuoteIn the past couple weeks, Avatar's been like that bad pizza from last night's drunken bender: You loved it at the time, but now it just won't stay down. Last week we found out that its DVD/Blu-ray release was going to help save the Earth, but even that pales in comparison to what we're hearing this morning about Avatar: Home. It's the sequel you're having when you're not having a sequel — the "added value" theatrical re-release that'll cut back on the war scenes, play up supporting characters, and ensure James Cameron and Fox clean up every one of those hundreds of millions of dollars left on the table by moviegoers around the globe.

Speaking at a press conference in Berlin to promote the upcoming disc release, Cameron and producer Jon Landau cautiously let slip a few things about why you'll want to see Avatar in cinemas again — even though you already own it on disc. For one thing, it's now to be known as Avatar: Home, and it's a direct challenge to his naysayers and those who think 3-D has to be applied to everything hitting multiplexes. As quoted in Der Spiegel online, the conversation revealed:

"We're going with the 170-minute running time, which is the maximum for IMAX, but there'll be 55 minutes of previously unseen footage in there," Cameron said. "You'll actually be seeing less of the battles and we're not going to be re-releasing in 3-D." Given the proliferation of 3-D films in the past few months in the wake of Avatar's success, it was a revelation that provoked gasps from the European press contingent.

"I've heard the criticisms about the action focus and the spectacle coming at the expense of everything else, and I want people to see that this is about the characters and the story first and foremost," Cameron continued. "What you'll get in Avatar: Home is more about Pandora's ecology and how it reflects what we risk losing here on Earth. It's deep stuff and people need to dig into it. The 3-D distracts from that, as immersive as it is. To that end, we've cut down the war sequences to accommodate the message."

But the changes to Avatar: Home are also meant at ensuring the sequel is as anticipated as any film could be. Cameron explained: "The other major thing is that we spend about 12 minutes going 10 years into the future, so we see how Jake adjusts to life on Pandora - how he copes with being one of the few of his species, the problems he and Neytiri have conceiving a hybrid-hybrid baby and the ongoing role Dr. Grace Augustine's spirit has in guiding the planet. She's like Obi-Wan, I guess, though she'll be dressed better! Basically, it takes us up to the point where we begin Avatar 2, with Jake unable to hide that he wants off Pandora, that he needs to get back into his old skin and into the fray. So, the re-release constitutes and essential bridge between the two films."

Excuse us, and this is developing, but holy crap! Count on Avatar: Home to see Cameron's opus ride out the year as it began it: atop the box-office.

Holy crap! i was scared senceless!! the i did more searching and i found this:

QuoteAvatar Summer Release – "Avatar", the feature film that has shattered records around the world and won several Oscars, including the Oscar for best cinematography, may see another limited release on the silver screen this summer. It is assumed that the re-release would mostly feature 3D theatres, and would more than likely exclude most theatre's that do not feature some sort of 3D screen. It has also been reported that Avatar would more than likely feature extra deleted scenes, scenes that have already been described around the Internet, and many fans said they wished they had been included.
Even though Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time, this move comes in part because the studio feels that they lost a great deal of revenue when Avatar Summer Release – "Alice in Wonderland" took over many of the 3D screen across the country. A Re-release of Avatar on 3D screens during the summer would probably allow them to recoup most of the revenue that was lost when Alice debuted.

"Avatar" has been heralded for its intricate CGI effects, and won several awards for it throughout the awards season. Many people have said that the storyline in "Avatar" was too basic, or too preachy. This is a sentiment that is not generally shared with the general public, based on the gross income from the movie alone.

Re-Releasing "Avatar" in the summer would allow school children to view the movie during the day, and would make it much easier for the studio to book 3D theatres throughout the summer in hopes that they can continue the success that the movie has seen already. "Avatar" moved past James Cameron's former smash, "Titanic" just a few weeks after opening. This was helped by higher ticket prices for viewing of 3D movies, as well as a strong ad campaign that lasted several months and included several ad spots during the most watched event in American television, the Superbowl.

Now i have no idea who to believe. will it be in 3-D? will it not? will the cut down on battle scenes?
Please comment!! (it would help my nerves on what every one else thought about this)

Wow, some amazing info there, I'd support either direction. Given that today is April 1st though, where are these quoted from if I might ask?

Wow. Cool on one hand, not so much on the other. 55 mins od footage is awesome but no 3d? And what's with the spoiler!! I didn't want to find out that Jake regrets his decision in a press release! I wanted to WATCH it to find out! I'm cool with them cutting old footage to make room for new footage, but hope that someday they have a DVD with ALL the footage.

Yea, this whole time I thought we would get only about 20 minutes of extra footage, but almost A WHOLE HOUR. Wow. Hopefully they release that with the special edition at the end of the year. Like one of those with two versions of the movie, theater and then the extended edition, like they did with the version of AVP I have.

Yeah, I had severe doubts when I first read it this morning and the more I look at it the less likely it seems to the point that I'm 99.99999% sure this is an April Fools joke.

^Yea, I noticed that just by reading the comments section. LOL

::grins slightly:: Everything about this seems as plausible as anything, when having a blank canvas like A2. However, the thing that I can't easily swallow, is Jake regretting anything about his decision. I, for one, would not wish for a continued story line. Ayskxawng!

If this is a JOKE, pxasik!! And don't think that it can't be...Taronyu made a freaking dictionary in Na'vi. Anything can occur.

If? If this is a joke? I've said it on a few topics today, don't trust anything you read today.

Yes...I know. I read it all. But, hey, we'll see. God, I hope not, though.

They are talking about a re-release this summer since about a month now so that's not a joke. I really doubt they'll change the actual movie though ;)

Extra footage at the expense of battle scenes though...

i think even with this being April 1st, if a website chose to publish that sort of article relating to Fox and James Cameron etc without it being true, they would find themselves strung up by the heels and shaken until every penny they had came out in litigation expenses and the award for libel (written form of defamation) and any other legal precedent they could find

on the other hand, nice work finding that and i wouldnt be surprised if it did happen, after the original took nearly 3 billion, a re-release would still guarentee several hundered million at least from fans and other curious folk at very limited expense to them actually re-cutting and editing the movie again, supposedly quite a lot of extra scenes have been filmed that were no longer in the final movie due to time constraints and the general flow of the movie (:RANT:seems these days if most things dont have collisions, explosions, guns and bombs it is not taken too well by the general violence obsessed public, shame because i think if any of them actually went to a war zone they would never watch a violent movie again, not a pretty sight i tell you, friend of mine got killed by an IED in Afgahnistan, there wasnt much of him left:/RANT:)

hopefully they do release a re-cut with more info based around the characters that we love instead of just the ones we love to hate (aka Quaritch) and the concept of the pregnancy between Naytiri and Jake and a scene i read about on here with Tsu-tey and Jake when Tsu-tey gets shot etc

Nifty

Hmm. This is very interesting. I heard that the re-release would be about 11 minutes, not 20 nor 55 minutes. One thing that confuses me is why Cameron is going through this deep revenge on getting back at the creators of "Alice in Wonderland".

Sure Cameron is the guy who doesn't accept defeat and likes to raise the bar like Sam worthington said but I reckon he might be going a tut too far. In fact it may even turn out to be a bomb to his net income as there are many other movies going on as well. (Movie being bomb: as in not being bad, but people watching other movies instead)

Heh I thought they were releasing all the special content and all in the DvD anyway. And no I don't think this is an April fool thing. Cameron doesn't take jokes kindly, he seems that type of guy. Knowing how much time was spent into the making of the movie he probably made it long anyway.

*I'm back from the dead... that is back after around 9 months... I'm sorry =(, school's been tough*

I've gone into making game guides for Wesnoth and getting back to a skill I haven't used for over 10 years... drawing. :)

Avatar found it's way onto snl VERY shortly after it was released? Guess who actually made an appearance on that episode of snl which totally ripped on Avatar. That's right, both Sigourney AND JC. JC knows how to make fun of his massive success. If anybody will have an issue with this April fools joke it will be fox. And I gaurentee you if fox got pissed about this they would come under heavy fire cause that would just be stupid.

Trust me people, while an extended rerelease is HIGHLY likely, this article is a joke.
