Ah, the filename gives the origin of that away :P

Myself, I don't want to see another species. Two sentient species on one world would really be pushing the boundaries of plausibility, and the Na'vi are perfect anyway.

if the na'vi aren't pxing on ngoinng in the water, then it it totally plausible that there could be to sentient beings on one planet.  in fact, the odds of sentience being born in the ocean is far more probable than it is on land.  so it could be that the water na'vi are more advanced than the land na'vi.

Hmm, new race? As in breathe underwater or something? :o I don't think he'd do that, I might be wrong thought. I think it will just be new clans and creatures, but that is an obvious point. And, well..hmm, if it was going to be a new race of Na'vi, then the one we know now will have to have another name, possibly, and the new one another. Like Na'vi=Human, Race=like human race. Unless, it would be Alien=human, na'vi=race...etc.. ::) :D

As covered by 2 other threads in this sub-forum, I highly doubt it :P

Plus, Frommer already is dealing with the original Na'vi language.

BTT: I'm not too sure about other Na'vi races, either...

in fact, the odds of sentience being born in the ocean is far more probable than it is on land
Citation? Current datum suggests that the probability of sentience evolving on land is 1, while the probability of it evolving in oceans is 0.

A: your citation?
B: Your Definition os Sentience?
C: I can see this going many directions, starting of a different thread may be advisable.

Not a citation so much as raw data (or in this case, datum): Earth.

Possibly, but that is hardly necessary yet. I'm genuinely interested in knowing where you acquired the information that sentience is more likely to evolve in water than on land. Depending on the credibility of that source, further discussion might be meaningful.

I don't think there will be a new species of Na'vi cause one is enough. If he made one with webbed feet or something it would just ruin the whole story as a...well, whole.

Also, even if there was a Pandorean sentient species under the sea, speech would be probably be just about impossible because of the density of various liquids. One could assume they would vocalize like marine mammals and use ultrasonic sound or low frequency grunts like the blue whales. I for one can not come close to making a dolphin sound so if there is an under water version of the Na'vi, I don't think human actors could make sounds unaided by technology that we could actually hear.

what you are talking about human-level intelligence would be sapience...

my source is Physics of the impossible by Michio Kaku, in one of his side notes it mentions this topic.

True. Let's cut that part out and leave the language and tool stuff.

I don't think that they'll introduce a whole new species, but maybe a new Na'vi race, with minor differences. Just as there's different races of humans.

It would be so awesome if like...some of the Na'vi got mutated and turned into freaky catfish merpeople because of the dangerous factories that were left over by the skypeople and like the stuff in the factories wasn't disposed of properly so the planet would be safe again....blah blah
I'm so turning this into a fan manga.
/imagination rant

But yeah about the actual topic of this thread, I think the Na'vi are awesome enough and they would always be interesting. Buuuut one thing I would love to see is Na'vi that have different characteristics depending on where on the moon they come from. Like different skin colours etc. Like what if there were Na'vi that live in the mountains...would they be coloured differently? *Thinky face*

But yeah with that above paragraph I'm basically agreeing with Sir Haxalot :) That's something that would be super cool to see with the Na'vi.

I'd argue that a new "race" wouldn't look so drastically different (and be so different physiologically). A new sentient species? Perhaps - I dont see why two couldn't exist on one world (they did here for a while - humans and neaderthals lived in Europe simultaneously for a few millenia, and they are not just different ethnicities)

As far as different variations of Na'vi - I have wondered about Na'vi living in the arctic regions (it is briefly mentioned in the ASG) and I think it could be interesting to see how they would be compared to the forest-dwelling Omaticaya (perhaps a bit paler, a bit stockier, ect)

I've also wondered about this, and wondered that maybe to adapt to the cold climate they would develop fur.... ::) A Na'vi with fur would be really interesting. :D

Hehe... most people won't like my suggestion - which is to have them have a little layer of blubber similar to whales and sea lions here on earth if they're that far north. Thus far there have been no furry creatures on Pandora... which sort of leads me to believe that trend may be "global" >.>

Hehehe a Na'vi with fur sounds like a furry X3 they already look like kitties...
