In the original screenplay, apparently, Neytiri is supposed to be pregnant with Jake's child in the last scene. Since they cut that from the movie, I am wondering if they will have a Jake or Neytiri Jr. Personally I hope we see how the Na'vi actually raise kids, and what the baby Na'vi look like - braids and all!

Are they even genetically compatible?

According to Cameron they apparently are... despite the fact that most hybrid creatures are unable to reproduce. I guess gene splicing has improved over the span of a hundred fifty years or so.

It would see that they would not be, though, considering that the Na'vi genome is canonically not based in ribonucleic acid (DNA/RNA).

If they are not based on the RNA/DNA that many Earth creatures are, then it would technically be impossible to create the Avatars in the first place? Im pretty sure they used DNA from the humans - which,  technically, couldnt be spliced with genes not based on DNA/RNA.

Is it mentioned somewhere that Pandora creatures aren't based on DNA/RNA? I've read the Survival Guide cover to cover but I haven't seen that mentioned.

Ah, there it is.

Since the Na’vi cellular nucleus organelle does not use nucleic acids (DNA or RNA) to encode genetic information, producing a ‘translation table’ that matched a specific Human's DNA to a Na'vi NVTranscriptase equivalent closely enough to allow a level of neural resonance strong enough for congruent mental communication to occur required many months of processing on massively parallel "zettaflop" photonic computing arrays as well as many failed experiments. . .

Look up "Avatar Program" in the wiki.  :)

check me on this
if you look at the avatars they are children of both human and navi bc jake stated that they are grown from the dna of both human and a navi sample. and they showed the avatars growing like human babies, so could the same smae happen with Neytiri's child?

I envision five fingers on each hand but only vol venzek. And possibly very sparse eyebrows.
The Na'vi don't have that "I lay eggs to reproduce" kind of vibe, at least none that let on in the movie. I imagine that tsahaylu is the nervous input during, but there's got to be more to it for the actual reproduction.

Here's a funky thought; if they were not gestating creatures (carrying them inside), has anyone considered marsupialism? Lol, did anybody notice a pouch anywhere?

That's an interesting thought.  According to the wiki they are not placental mammals, but that doesn't rule in marsupialism, necessarily.

Mmmm, Wiki I don't trust as much as the movie.

Oh! Wow! Hang on one minute. Maybe the Na'vi are seed-producers! the whole planet of Pandora is full of planimals, why not the dominant species as well?

I'm not dead-serious, by the way. But considering the importance they place on Atokirina, you gotta think about it...

check if im right
your saying the planet itself the mother where the child is grown from and the navi prove the materials need for reproduction? that is interesting idea becasue they keep refering to Pandora and/or Eywa as the "All Mother"

Either the planet is actually their mother and the Na'vi are its seeds, or instead of carrying fetuses or "laying eggs", they produce a seed, which they might plant or otherwise care for. There may be some genetic input from the mother and father, otherwise everyone would be genetically identical. It's plausible. Neither Cameron nor Frommer has said anything to prove otherwise.

I think that is a good theory. i wonder how kids can each couple have, and how do clans intermarry?

I'm sure there is some intermarriage.  There are not more than a few hundred, maybe a few thousand people per clan; they may become dangerously inbred after a few generations without at least a few 'expatriates' from another clan marrying the locals.

But wait, wasn't Tsu'Tey the son of Ateyo, from the Rongola clan or something like that? Therefore, maybe they marry outside of the clan for alliance purposes, or maybe there was more than one lineage among the Omaticaya.
There used to be a "city" of sorts in the American South, around Louisiana. It's considered one of the oldest cities in the world, at about 4,000 years old. I don't know what it was called, but I read a book about it in high school. The book said there were at least five "moieties" or clans livinf in one area inder one collective name. I guess they had something like a Wolf Clan, a Deer Clan, an Owl Clan and so on and so forth. So, who is to say that the Na'vi might have the same system? There were an awful lot of them and that was a terribly big tree. I'm just speculating, of course...

if your right on that theory then i believe that will help led into next bc their might tribes that didnt fully agree that turokmatko is trans-navi. i think there 10 times more tribes on Pandora, and the tribes that did come argee with Jake but some have not idk what you think?
