Shameless necropost...

Abrams did what he does best. He took a tiring franchise and twisted it around enough to be interesting again. Whether it is "good" or not is less important than the fact that it put ST back on the map after a confusing bunch of series-jumping sequels.

After all, we're talking about it...  ;)

No, he turned it into an 'Explosions In Space' Star Wars clone, just to make money, he openly said that he didn't like any of the real series or films. One of the the reasons I loved ST was because it wasn't just another LOLEXPLOSIONSSPACE series, but had a real message and showed that there was possibly some hope for humanity, no matter how distant. It also took on issues that were huge in its day, in a clever way but without being overly obvious about it. That abrams thing does none of those.
I also hate how he didn't use the film number or a subtitle, as if to try and erase the existence of the real, good films and bring in people who don't even know there are canon ones.

We will have to agree to disagree on that, then. I think rather much more highly of the film.

Slightly off topic I know, but I felt that  T N G  looked and felt very dated very quickly, unlike the original series.

Just have faith.
Like I said in a much earlier post in this thread, we are talking about James Cameron.
He is personally directing the Sequels himself, as it should be.
So it wont suck....you know it wont suck.

We have a while to wait, but still. If its taking 3 years to make a sequel, then its going to be good.
Most other sequels from other movies suck balls, because they do it so quickly, in hopes that the hype from the first movie will bring a better box office count. For Example: The Matrix.....Most liked the first movie, however the second one was...well...you know where I am going with this.
The only way James Cameron has failed.....James Cameron has FAILED to disappoint me.  ;D

You are joking, right?
TNG looks very much like a parallel branch of development with an appropriately high level of sophistication (admittedly, Voyager does the same style better, and Enterprise looks more modern completely), but the original was dated even when it appeared.

Um, I felt TNG was very contemporary to it's time 1987 to 1994.
It was cutting edge stuff at the time, and it looked it. But the edge of what was possible in 87 was beginning to look old by 94, imho.
Original series tried to create it's own look, black and chrome, OK the flashing colored lights were a si-fi staple, but you have to give the audience something familiar.

Granted both tried to address contemporary issues, I just felt the original was better at wrapping the message in visual entertainment.

To me TNG is too overtly a commentary on then current issues. Acting is better I admit.

I love TNG but the graphics are very dated. I also love the new movie and can't wait for the new one.

I am pretty sure Avatar 2 will not suck, cause Jim has a long time on him to make the sequel better.

Longer time for release, less is the movie going to be bad

So that's why the release was pushed to 2016, instead of 2014

So in Avatar 2 will we also see some Pandorian sea animals? or something else?

If you meant in terms of ships/space, I agree - however, it was filmed with actual physical models, so with that in mind, it's amazingly visually advanced, TNG and early DS9* are possibly the best examples of such visual effects.

*DS9 switched to CG about halfway through, and Voyager was all CG.

In terms of interior, it looks appropriately advanced, just along a parallel branch compared to what actually exists.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but our beloved Sequels wont be coming until MAYBE 2016 and 2017....
As they are currently still writing the scripts and story for both sequels...

My guess is its taking so long, because they HAVE to right both movie scripts at the same time in order to shoot both movies at the same time....
This SUCKS, but James has never let us down...

I kinda figured that figuring out the plot line would be the main issue of delay.  All things considered, though, I'm still sayin' it's most likely worth it :)

I agree with that, you can do things slowly but good or you can do it quickly but not as good
I hope that the ones after the 2 are gonna be good as well. However i heard that they are shooting them back to back. So i hope they stay focused and don't rush
