Well, the main reason why they wouldn't show the cloning of Tom or even mention it since it would have probably killed the storyline James Cameron set up. Honest, many authors and producers sometimes leave parts making some things unrealistic, impossilbe, non-sense or such just to keep the storyline going.

Yeah, I know that's the reason they did it. But they need to stay true to their own logic: They decided the RDA can't bring people back from the dead, so that's the way it should be.
Tsu'tey also died for dramaturgical reasons, cause they needed to get him out of the way so Jake could be Olo'eyktan and stuff. That also doesn't mean he's gonna pop back into life randomly.

A lot of this topic seems to be on who will come back cloned. Why not talk about those who survived and whta they might do? The dead are dead, although i think Grace will be the "face" of Eywa if anybody trys to speak to her, so lets move onto who survived. Theres neytiri and Jake, not to mention Parker made it out. Will he return maybe?
Neytiri: Now you choose your woman. This you must feel inside. If she also chooses you, move quick like I showed.
Jake: How will I know if she chooses me?
Neytiri: She will try to kill you.
Jake: Outstanding. *takes out an ikran-catcher and walks through hometree looking for women*

If they find a good role for him.
They set him up as a character there, the greedy business guy whose conscience was slightly tweaked by all the wrong they did.

I dunno... maybe Parker could return. Its a big possibility in any case. But I think he would listen to his conscience a bit more after having his a** handed to him by the "fly bitten savages". :)

I'm fairly sure Selfridge will be back, because he didn't get what he deserved to happen (a painful death) in Avatar.

As for Quaritch, I really actually hope he doesn't come back... especially via cloning... of all the cheesy, obvious plot devices, cloning someone after death is one of the worst ever (and it doesn't actually work like that), although I'd have no problem with Stephen Lang playing a new character, as long as he isn't just the same as Quaritch in looks, personality, etc.

If Quaritch did come back, it would be the worst thing for the Na'vi

Do you think it would be a long stretch if Quatritch was using avatar tech to remotely operate his human clone?

HRH. :D Maybe they could take out his brain, revive it, keep it in a jar while they made a clone, then stick it back in and voila! Colonel Miles Quaritch II! Somehow I don't think he's worth that much to the RDA..... :D

He was much less evil in the script - in fact, Quaritch took over the RDA base by force (the line in the film "Quaritch has taken over" isn't metaphorical, he literally did take over.

Yep--in my opinion, Selfridge isn't a villain. He's just a big boss doing his job, it's Quaritch that's such a beast.

Copied from the script, an exchange between Selfridge and Quaritch on the war against the Na'vi.

See? Maybe Selfridge isn't so bad. Just a bit of a fnawe'tu.

The SE really emphasizes that Quaritch engineered the conflict as an excuse to go shoot missiles at the Na'vi. I'm pretty sure he knew full well that sending dozers so close to Hometree with such a light escort would provoke an attack, and he then uses that footage to convince Parker to "pull the trigger". Parker is at least human enough to be distraught, imo. :3

He still did nothing. The only humans I say did the right thing are Max, along with the other avatar drivers and some of the lab staff (from the script). If Selfridge had actually tried to undo what he had let happen (I don't know, even trying something...) he'd have gained a lot of respect in my eyes.
I did read the script, I know what happened, but the truth is, even as son as we see him, he clearly only cares about money.

Yeah, in the script this is made crystal-clear, destroying the tree of voices was just to get them to retaliate.

To me, Selfridge is the kind of person that like things to stay cool and earn a lot of money. He didn't want war, he'd prefer the 'carrot' approach, but he also isn't completely against war. Selfridge is a coward, he's not comfortable with refusing Quaritch what Quaritch wants. Because what Quaritch wants, Quaritch gets......Selfridge wasn't about to undo what Quaritch did, he had no reason to. He had never met a Na'vi that didn't want to kill him, and I doubt if the guy actually ever experienced the Pandoran jungle.
So when faced with war, he tried to keep things cool but wasn't strong enough. That's his type. He's too young to have such a big responsibility anyway.... :D

And he's a scientologist (the actor) so he's obviously easily persuaded by crap in real life :P
