There has to be a sequel, I think the first part becomes slowly boring (Hm, I watched it nearby every week...)

Archaic casually chews the legs off Palulukanä Tarontu for such blasphemy.

Oh, I'm sorry for that, but it's true. I still like the movie, I don't want to talk bad about the movie. :D

I think what Palalukana Tarontu means is that after watching the movie several tens of times over, it doesn't have the same magic as the first time at the cinema, which is true.

Well, theater is always better than home for that 'movie magic' experience, and first time is always the most special.

On the other paw I'm hungry. Palalukana Tarontu, do you have artificial hips?

You seem to be very hungry and of course no, I don't have any.

Should I be scared now?

No, I should probably find some one else to eat, there's usually a Zombie or two knocking around in the spxam section. :D ;D

Are you undead?
Have you taken to walking slowly, with your arms out stretched?
Do you smell slightly of rotting flesh?
Can everything you wish to say, be summarized with the word "Brains!"?

If you answered yes to three or more of these, you're definitely on the menu.

Any whoo.
Why sucky sequels suck .....
..... Because the first is a new story, anything is possible. A sequel is tied down by it's predecessor, it's all old news.
Or, because the first was a success, they don't bother to try hard with the sequels.

All I will say about this Topic is:

We are talking about James Cameron. NONE of his sequels for previous movies have EVER sucked.
Not to mention, we are talking about Avatar here!!!
Another thing....Avatar 2 will release in 2014...Three frikin years from now!
Which only tells me that the movie will not cut any corners, their going to take their time and get it right.

nuff said.

Yeah, you're right. But don't forget one fact: James Cameron has got a full schedule. Hes writing his novel about Avatar, he will be working on Titanic 3D, which is set to be released 2012, the 100th Year of the Titanic's sinking. If the rumors are right, he will work on Cleopatra. Then he has to write the Scripts for Avatar 2 and 3 (probably he writes memos until he's woring on his other things). And then there will be the whole production of the 2 sequels.
Or short: He has a lot work to do. I don't know if there will be enough time. Pandora may be created, but there are things that have to be done for these sequels.

Just found: Battle Angel and some other projects are also on his todo list.

Well.....holy crap...
I still believe that Avatar being his BEST movie ever created in the history of forever...shall receive special treatment.
Remember that he stated in an interview once, that all the vegetation and foliage has been created from Avatar 1, so thats a LOT of time accounted for.

Im essited about what Avatar 2 will be called, and what its plot will be.
Supposedly we will see the return of almost all the characters from Avatar 1, into the sequel.
shweeeet.

I saw a trailer for another one of his explorative movies (Sanctum), and I gotta say, I'm still all for AVATAR 2 when it comes out...

There have been some good sequels.

"Star Wars" had several for instance, you only have to listen to the purists going on about "The Empire Strikes Back" to know that (personally I prefer "Return of The Jedi").

"Star Trek" also had some good sequels, just about everyone but me hated "The Movie" and let's be honest "II", "VI" & "VIII" were excellent (as indeed was the latest one)!

"Hell Boy II" was good, "Back To The Future III" was great fun, "X-Men II" was much better than the original and most of the Potter films were PDG. "Blade III" was great ... er ... oh yeah it was awful, but in it's defence it was so awful it was hysterically funny. There's "Aliens", "Terminator 2" (although I think the first always will be the best) and some misguided people think Predator II is better than the first. "Indiana Jones III" wasn't at all bad, "Spider Man II" was excellent, "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" was way better than any of its predecessors, The "Superman" sequels were OK (if you ignore IV) and then there's "The Godfather" sequels.

I grant you that many sequels are rubbish but there are still a lot of good ones out there.

One of the things I found enjoyable about the public response to both Titanic and Avatar was seeing all of the people who were SO desperate for James Cameron to flop made fools of. Both movies were proceeded by a number of jeering articles about the expense of the production and how it looked like a sure-fire disaster that no-one would ever see. Then the box office receipts started to come in.  ;D

I'm not claiming that popularity = quality BTW (I would never say such a thing), it's just that these articles seemed to rejoice in the idea that JC had finally made a film that would be box office poison.

I have confidence. People forget that this guy knows what he's doing.

Please tell me if you see mistakes in a Na'vi post of mine. It's the only way I'll learn. :P

I would agree, except that abrams thing was an insult to its title - it was basically 'EXPLOSIONS IN SPACE LOLOLOL LENSFLARE LOLOL DESTROY ALL CANON' and quite possibly the worst film I have seen for several years.

Sequels CAN be good (Star Wars, most real ST films as mentioned above) - the main reason sequels become bad is when they try to change either the director, the interpretation or the genre/feel, or if the original film solidly completed its storyline with little expectation of a sequel.

Well, I liked JJ Abrams 'Star Trek XI : Explosions In Space And Lensflare.'

Like Archaic I'm gonna have to disagree on JJ Abrams film ... admittedly I think there were issues with it, namely the comedic way they dealt with the Kobayashi Maru simulation which Kirk was supposed to have aced, but I thought the characters were largely excellent as the young enterprise crew and they have set the scenario up magnificently for the start of an entire new Trek film franchise.

Most "real" ST film? LOL! I liked the prequels ... I mean I really, really, enjoyed them. Other than that I by & large agree.

Roddenberry himself said he didn't consider The Final Frontier canon.
Other than that, the only bad ones are Insurrection, Nemesis and that Abrams thing.

Damn! I thought you were referring to Star Wars!!!!!

Final Frontier was, in my opinion (not definitively), pants yes! I wasn't keen on the final two old ST films but I still disagree on the Abrams relaunch.
