I have the art book and the field guide. Awesome books. I just recognized the loom in the background when Grace is allowed back into the tribe.

Lol. It's funny. I remember the first time I saw the loom in the field guide and for some reason, out of all the other pics they have in there, that one made me thing "Hey! I don't remember seeing this in the movie!". Then sure enough, next time I went, there it was.

I want the concept art book sooo bad... I've been trying to draw some of the animals + scenery on pandora, but can't find a good reference picture online of what some of them look like in detail! Thanks for the feedback!

It's good for it's pictures but my copy is already coming apart badly. The binding quality is beyond lousy.

Hey, how long ago did you buy it? Can you take it back to the store and complain?

I think about 3 weeks ago. I probably could bring it back but the book store isn't responsible. I think I'm going to send the publisher an e-mail ...

I would TOTALLY tell the store the book is crap and see if the other copies they have are crap--look, as an author, my publisher takes returns all the time. I am not saying to yell at the bookstore, but they have to know. What if other people have been returning the book? What if the bookstore WANTS your business and will happily exchange the book?

lemme give you a mini-lesson on book sales. All books are sold on consignment (with rare exception). This started in the "Great Depression." Any bookstore with 1/2 way decent credit can get books "for free" (purchase order) and sit on them for 6 months and "sell them or return them." Some bookstores have to pay up front, but they get full credit on returns. I don;t want to see YOU suffer because yo got a bad book. You should at least tell the store (show them) and I mean the manager or the owner. Tell them you realize it is not THEIR fault, but how can you trust them if the product they carry is crap. Don't forget to point out that this is not some fly-by-night "self-publisher" but one of the largest publishers in the world. (One of "the big 5" publishers)

I will bet you they will gladly take and give you a new copy, and yell (very loudly) at the distributor, who will threaten the publisher, who will fire the (3rd world) printer. Please don't a: wait any longer on this, and b: complain to us and fail to take it back to the bookstore. you are making ME not want to buy the book, and maybe--just maybe, you got the one bad one. Think this over. It makes sense.

Two more things about it:
Mine is also coming apart but I'll have to tell amazon... Wonder if they reply?
Second: The Na'vi on the front cover is also used for the opening screen of the video game (something I realized today after looking at the book in its shelf above my monitor while waiting for the game to load)...

As far as I've heard many people are having difficulties with the binding, so I guess when enough take the time to complain and don't just take the book as a look-once-and-use-to-collect-dust piece there's likely to be a reaction from the publisher.

Oh, Amazon responds alright. It is not the easiest thing to find the email contact for Amazon, but I have had GREAT results as a customer, and as an author with Amazon customer service, which really surprises me. Amazon prides itself on "being the world's most customer-centric company in the world." But I have one better:

Episode one of the Navi Podcast: A formal complaint, sent out to the world, that people are having this problem. we need specifics, but I know for a fact this podcast WILL be heard by people at FOX, and various parts of the Tawtute empire that is Avatar merchandising. the last thing FOX want is cheap products harming their (multi) billion dollar baby. Now that we have two reliable sources (please upload pictures!) we have something to stand on, and if anyone hears of other people, please, please don't just listen. get a photo. Or get them to post here. we don;t need names and addresses (unless they want a free book, possibly) but we can' fix this issue if people don't at least speak out here in the forums. I am an activist when it comes to the rights of people, especially against large entities and most especially against bad treatment of customers (I hate the word consumer--it reduces you to "lab rat" status). So please--get that info posted so we can DO something about it. Generalities and vague complaints will never get this resolved. Specifics please.

Txan irayo in advance!

Okay, this I can use. I still say you should march down to the store and show them--no matter what. If they value your business and give you a new book, I want to know that as well--because people WILL hear about this.

OK I told them and they wrote it down. I did't exchange it though since the other will come apart like the one I have so what's the point.
I will also send an e-mail to the publisher to let them know that they have a serious issue.

Okay--(questions):

1: Did they ask if you wanted to exchange it? I am just wondering how customer service is in your area.
2: Did you see if other copies were just as crappily made?

I have bought books I was really excited about and had the pages just fall right out, and it is the most frustrting thing to me--especially when I am spending twenty bucks (or more!) on a book.

Oh yeah--thanks for the update.
