I really hope they fix how she is holding the bow in the final product.  She's holding it with the wrong hand.

It's rather frightening how well orchestrated the merchandising appears to be. While I've no qualms over supporting the film directly, I think the spirit of the Na'vi are better served by directing our passions towards the creation of our own daggers, chokers, etc.

It will be interesting to see if there doesn't develop some particular accoutrement that identifies one as a "Avatarian" or such, as goggles may serve in the Steampunk crowd. I suppose it's only a matter of time before we split into groups, among which will be purists who decry the sloppy application of chokers to oneself as the mark of a "true" Na'vi. ;)

What about the delicate and well-thought-out application of self-made chokers to oneself?  :)  I'm going to see the movie again on Tuesday and hope to have made a simple choker worth of a Na'vi to wear there.

Also?  So on board with creating the other accoutrements too.  Don't have those skills at the moment, but... nothing saying I can't pick up yet another hobby.

id love to design my own choker, armband, and other adornments. One thing tho, they dont let us know wheter the deisgns are just personal choice, or if its ceremonial, or even if its based on family. Yes the chokers were finding now are just "generic" but they will have to do until we can find out more about their lifestyle and habits, routines, and other group activites.

Id be proud to wear Jakes choker and armband, they so far are pretty iconic. Id love to make my own but with little knowledge about the origin of the designs id rather not yet. Im still wondering about their hair style too, i get the long braid, but i dont understand the stranded hair adorned by beas that hangs down from the frontal and side portions of their hair.

Okay, I'll see what I can do.  I bought some glass beads today but when I got home and looked at the Noble Collection one, they're green!  I could have sworn they were gold.  (I also got beautiful blue ones.)  But nothing says it has to be a copy of Neytiri's.  After all, I'm Tanhìyärina', not Neytiri.  ;)  I might also do some simple bead netting thing like Jake's armband, if I find anything appropriate in my stash.

I'm also hoping to get some more inspiration for other pieces from the second viewing-- now perhaps I can pay more attention to their outfits.

Well I'm already working on a Na'vi scaled down to human size dagger that'll be made basically out of layers of cardboard (or foam) then modrocked to make the final shape before a LOT of careful painting

Here's the one choker I finished, and the one I'm working on.  The natural color one has a polymer clay bead in the middle (which I inherited, quite literally) and wood beads, and the dark one is colored wood beads.  Sorry the picture isn't the greatest.  I was experimenting with a couple different knots and weights of cording.  I haven't used my really gorgeous beads yet-- I'm saving those until I decide which knotting pattern I want to use.  And if I really do want to use hemp cording-- looking at the replica of Neytiri's choker it looks like it may be embroidery floss.  But I think this is perhaps closer to the spirit of the thing.  (The black one is still in progress-- I cut the cords just barely long enough, but haven't had the time to finish it off yet.)

wow, those are looking really nice i like the dark one, it seems to have the knots closer and would probably be more compfortable to wear. Great job one them!!

Irayo, ma Tsmukan Ikranä!  The dark one is much thinner cording, and instead of a single cord with half-hitches, it's a series of half knots.  It makes the spiral tighter-- and it is a lot softer.  The thicker hemp is awfully scratchy-- once worn long enough, it smooths out, but you have to tolerate the scratchiness in order for that to happen.

Next up is bright colored cording and more intricate knotting patterns.  (I also found a strip of leather worthy of Jake's choker, and have lots of ideas about how to make his other choker that's more fiber (this one: http://www.noblecollection.com/catalog/product.cfm?id=NN8831&catid=86 )-- it intrigues me because it's asymmetrical, and has several different techniques.)
