Ftiafpi's note: License stuff at bottom. Click on the images to get to the high-quality versions if you so wish.

The clan gathers. We impress the natives with our alien ways.

Scott and his extensive binder of Lì'fya leNa'vi. Somewhere in there is what he's looking for.

Karyu Pawl sì Jon arrives with their escort; one Na'vi and one tawtute.

The clan is gathered, ready for the hike through the forest. Kivä ko!

Sarah briefly spots a yerik le'Rrta. However, given our surplus of food she decided to allow it to proceed.

One of the Na'vi named "Sven" found the shoes to be much easier to wear on the pavement that is spread all over Earth by the Skypeople.

It looked interesting. Perhaps a new Na'vi style?

The Clan passes some Tawtute.

The hike 1.

The hike 2.

The hike 3.

The Na'vi poses.

The scenery was beautiful.

The Na'vi and Skypeople watch the waterfall.

The woods had amazing sites.

The Skypeople and the Na'vi meet. Both sides made a very good impression on each other.

Pictures were taken.

Many pictures.

Sarah climbed very high up the waterfall.

Sarah up high.

Matt and my Sarah investigate the water.

The waterfall.

More water. It's continuing to fall.

The Na'vi mingles.

More waterfall.

Even more water falling.

Yeah, don't do what we did. :P

We couldn't read the sign, it wasn't in Na'vi.

We conquered the waterfall anyway. :)

And then admired it's beauty.

What does Yasu think about all day? We may never know.

The clan having food.

Sarah tries some food from the skypeople while Fiyerwall and Yasu enjoys their day among these "humans".

More Yasu. When he is in his Avatar he's a very "interesting" person. :)

The shade under this tree was nice.

The Na'vi investigate the strange aliens.

Fiyerwall in her Avatar.

The tooth is missing.

How many Na'vi and Tawtute does it take to find a missing tooth?

Oh Yasu.

Yasu vs The Pinapple 1.

Yasu vs The Pinapple 2.

Yasu vs The Pinapple 3.

Yasu vs The Pinapple 4.

Yasu vs The Pinapple 5.

Yasu vs The Pinapple 6.

The creation.

Txep!

Matt educated us on the many Earth insects to be found in the area. The Na'vi called them "hì'ang".

Matt's Hì'ang.

More Hì'ang.

Even more Hì'ang.

Matt's Hì'ang.

The scenery looks truly amazing!

With all those pictures of falling water … does it still surprise one that we have that many words for ‘waterfall’? :P ;D

I've got my pictures uploaded (finally!)

http://navi.scottcomstock.com/gallery/

Notes:
(1) Yeah, I need to customize the gallery a bit, it's basically just a stock Coppermine install.
(2) I'm going to start rotating the photos that need it.
(3) Shoot me a PM or email (scott -AT- scottcomstock DOT com) if you're in a pic and would like it taken down
(4) I'm probably going to make these licensed CC BY-NC-SA.

I think there is a few videos of it bouncing around somewhere. (is there a name for the Ikran yet?) :)

Working on wrapping up my photos shortly.

We had a very touching ceremony explaining the origins of ngeyä ikran and passing it along to a new taronyu. I am sure that someone had pictures of it, but I didn't have my camera out at the time.

Great! Irayo ma Ftiafpi! :D

Wish you could have been here, too. Many of the insects are toxic, but only if you eat them.

I did not personally see the Ikran-passing ceremony, but I know it occurred.

My Ikran 'Taronyu' was there as well, but stayed in hiding for some reason, probably because his maktoyu was limping around much of the time...

Irayo ma Fifi for creating the post and sharing your photos.  They look...outstanding!  Irayo to you Sìkat too.  I shall be taking a look.

Ma Blue Elf, yeah we captured the Ikran handover.  I'm sure some piccies were taken.  Video was too, but this will take some time to edit...

Hmm, there are some insects...some of them aren't a bit toxic? :-\

Actually...

The only insect we saw that was actually toxic were the scattered monarch butterflies.

The millipedes synthesize weak organic acids that they squirt at attackers, but this is no stronger than citric acid, and is not toxic. Also, millipedes are not insects, but myriapods (saying that a millipede is in an insect is like saying that a butterfly is an arachnid).

There is a native millipede that synthesizes hydrogen cyanide, which is incredibly toxic, and was the active ingredient in the "suicide pills" given to spies in the cold war in case they were captured.

We didn't see any of those, though. Pity.

More photos!

Oeyä yawnetu.

The clan gathers.

The clan gathers.

All ready to enter the caverns.

The striations in the rocks were amazing. 1/3

The striations in the rocks were amazing. 2/3

The striations in the rocks were amazing. 3/3

An underground reflecting pool.

It was only a few inches deep but was amazing how well it reflected the ceiling.

Descending.

The ghost.

Crazy awesome lighting.

A good example of the scale of some things. This was a medium sized chamber.

Many of the stalactites were not pointed but actually almost wave-like and see-through.

This formation was created over many, many thousands of years by an underground river. It almost looks like a big shaggy dog.

Amazing.

My camera on my cell-phone doesn't do it justice. Shame I didn't think to bring me actual point and shoot.

A little blurry but again this shows the scale of things.

More see-through stalactites.

Almost like a finned creature.

Or maybe some form of ocean coral.

Many of the formations where almost bleach white.

You can see the brick walkways they had around the whole cavern here. It was very well integrated with the natural surroundings. You often had to pass around or under stalactites while you walked.

Another good scale picture. The place was huge. It didn't echo much, though. The jagged walls and ceiling provided a natural sound absorbing surface.

The air was surprisingly calm but not dead. There was an almost constant breeze that never varied. I wonder if it was man-made or natural?

Looking down.

You can see a massive fallen stalactite in this picture.

In the middle third of the picture you can see a massive fallen stalactite. I can't remember how much the tour guide said it weighed but it was a lot.

Just look at how big this was!

The biggest structure there.

Again.

The organ.

One of the solenoids.

The organ played a wonderful song using only the natural crystal structures in the cavern. Simply amazing.

They're almost touching.

The donation pool.

Literally tons of coins.

Some of the stalactites broke off revealing their cross-section.

Caution: JAZZ HANDS!

This almost looks like a giant pearl inside an oyster.

The green algae is only growing because of the unnatural light.

Another small pool on the way out.

Another small pool on the way out.

The Na'vi 101 refresher class.

The Na'vi 101 refresher class with Dr. Frommer.

Markì working on the fire.

Lu hasey.

The clan gathers for lunch.

The clan gathers for lunch.

The campfire queen takes over.

Matt has a little snack.

Mikko doing his thing.

Tompa zup!

Getting ready to watch Avatar. Jon Landau, the executive producer of Avatar, actually sent us a quick clip with a personal message for us. Lightstorm also paid for the room and some refreshments to be sent to us while we watched the movie. I guess it pays to be the biggest fans of a major motion picture.

And some 360 degree panoramas:

Luray caverns.

Videos are coming next.

So, I have all my GoPro videos from the trip for anyone who wants to see them and use them for various video productions (Alan!). I'm going to cut up some of the better ones and put them into a small YouTube video.

However, I'd like to provide all of them for anyone who wants. It's almost 6 gigs, though. Short of putting them on my works website, does anyone know of a good place I can stash them? I was considering my box.net account but I only have less than 5 gigs of space on there. Any thoughts? I could always put them on my engineering companies website I guess.

Cool!  Can't wait to see your You Tube vids.  Yeah it would be great to include your footage into the AvatarMeet videos.  It might be the only way people might get to see me - hmmm...may be not be a good thing!  Hahahaha  ;D

If you want to transfer any footage I have a sort of drop box from way back when we did an Avatar fan film that will upload files to mediafire.  The website thingy is www.avatarfanfilm.net

You might find that mediafire might work for you as it should be able to eat 6GB for you and enable people to download the footage.  I have about 300GB of space and 8.8TB bandwidth!!!  Here's a link: https://www.mediafire.com/  Hope it is useful.

I liked they way to shared you piccies and I'm going to copy if that's ok.  I've taken a few screen dumps from all the video footage to help contribute to the flavour of the event for those who couldn't make it.  Sorry if the image quality is a be...meh...I did have to up the gain on some of the evening footage.  So it might appear a bit grainy.  Anyway, here they are:

First Pre-Meetup day in Washington DC at the first museum of the day - The Space and Flight Museum:

Cheeky chappy hawnuyuna'viyä smiling at the camera:

Next up was the Museum on the Native American:

Where we met our German aysmukan:

It was quite an impressive environment inside and we took in the view for a while:

Looking down....all the way down!:

We did venture into the botanical garden to see this pointy smelly thing that had just bloomed.  Not sure what it was called, but I'm sure Raiden would be able to tell us:

Next up was a stop at Capitol Hill for a clan photo:

Before a clan walk to the Natural History Museum:

The following day we visited Washington Zoo.  Already the Na'vi transformation had started to take effect on DJ Makto!:

Next day it was camping time and so off we went to Shenandoah.  There was more syuve than you could shake a stick at:

The om, yom, yom went on into the night with RDA supplied night vision cameras:

The following day we all went to the Luray caves and Ftiafpi has some txantsan piccies in his post above, but here is one of the clan arriving:

In the afternoon, back at camp we have a Na'vi Class 101 refresher with Karyu Pawl:

Saturday brought Na'vi Class 102, given by our Karyu Pawl.  (This class was videoed and it will be published once edited via Pawl's Naviteri website):

Following the video message from Jon Landau to the clan, John gave out wonderful lapel badges to everyone before we gave Pawl and John a little something from the clan.  It was then time for Avatar CE after which there was some quality clan time:

On the last day of camp we couldn't hold back any longer it was cosplay time!:

There is nothing like Na'vi on the rocks...hmmm maybe there is a new drink there?  Hehehe:

And finally at the bottom of the waterfall, before realising we had to walk all the way back.  That made for some interesting sights, but you'll have to wait until the videos get posted for that ;) :

And that's all I have at the moment.  Now to get stuck into the editing!

Hard to think it is a week ago we were all setting off for home at the end of AvatarMeet 2013 - very sad only. :'(

Alan

Done! You should have a zip file that contains everything. There's one big video that's the entire drive up from Luray to the campsite, might be some good stuff in there. And the bits of the Luray Caverns and the various hiking stuff would definitely be good to include in some things. All of it was shot at 1280x960 wide angle so I hope that works well enough with your footage. If not, too bad. :P

Hmmmm, I may have to look into that. Irayo si ngaru.

Glad to see them and nothing wrong with using the best ideas. ;)  8) The pictures are great and I can't wait to see the final footage.
