Ma Marki, you pretty much answered a question I was going to ask!

Although I have every intention of tent camping, I may still choose to use your indoor space, especially on the first night, when Ballju, Timon and I will most likely be arriving in the evening, at or after dark on Saturday.

Is your cabin closer to Denver, or further away, than the original camp?

15 minutes further down a dirt road!   :)

And I am assuming said dirt road is driveable in a normal car?

Yes, it's Forest Road 250.  See the directions post further up.  http://forum.learnnavi.org/avatarmeet-2015/avatarmeet-2015-camping-trip/msg626215/#msg626215

This is generally what 250 looks like:

I'm in for the OLT trip.

I'll have my own vehicle.
As Sarah, Ekirä and Eltu are already riding with me, they are covered to OLT also. But that's my vehicle full.

Ok, that's Taronyu FTU, Sarah, Ekirä, Eltu, Mikko, Raiden, Wind12 and TLFN. Did I miss anyone?

I think we're good on transport.   -M.

I'd like to join too.

Sorry that I am a bit late, just came back from my construction job.

If there's no more room for me, that wouldn't be an issue for me.

I have only been able to get 10 reservations and we have 11 people interested. A membership at OLT is $35 and allows the member up to 5 reservations in advance, so does anyone want to get a membership to increase our options? It is a tax deductible donation. -M.

Its looking like I might have to come as well, to provide some of the transportation. I'm only really interested in the bats.

Be sure.  The bats' flight will be the last thing of the day.

Edit: And it is a two mile hike to get to the bats, the last 1/4 mile climbs about 400 feet.

I haven't heard back from those traveling with me, so I think its safe to assume I won't be going.

I am finally pretty much healed from my injury I sustained at the 2013 AvatarMeet. A two mile hike is not a big deal, but that much of an altitude change in 440 yards might be. I'm sure there will be other opportunities for hiking.

Thanks anyway. I am beginning to get excited about this trip!

I have another hike planned that is quite easy and has some outstanding views. This will be a fun trip.

Not intending to threadjack, but it's something I need to get out there.

As some of you have probably heard, I lost my job last week, and rather abruptly.  I'll spare the details, but it was rather unpleasant, and to say it was a "kick in the genitals" is putting it VERY mildly.  I'd been riding the ragged edge of burning out, and had already been exploring other opportunities before they essentially forced my hand.  Since then, I've been slinging resumes around and should start hearing back from potential employers next week.

Unfortunately, this means I can't make the meetup this year, which sucks because I was really looking forward to it.  However, I've sent my CAH decks and GoPro to `Eylan Ayfalulukanä, as had been my original plan when I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it (due to my elbow surgery).  Unfortunately, I still can't find the list of Avatar CAH cards, but if anyone's interested in helping me recreate it, give me a shout (scott AT scottcomstock DOT com).

Have fun!

I'm sorry to hear about the job ma tsmukan :(, I hope you can find something soon that is not only more stable, but is more pleasant.

One last reminder that if you forget anything (towels, sunblock, bug spray, toiletries, camping supplies, food, etc), there is a Walmart in Alamosa. For those going on the OLT trip, please get the spray-on sunblock that dries. The greasy stuff gets into the water and will foul the pools. Also don't forget hiking shoes. There's a lot to see and the bats are 2 miles away. Bring a jacket for the bat hike, it gets chilly when the sun goes down. A towel will not keep you warm. I have proven this.

In fact, in general, the altitudes in the area we will be in are very high, especially for those who live on the east coast of the US, and in Europe. Marki's cabin, for instance, appears to be at about 9,200 feet  (2804 meters). The air is thin, and nights can be cold at these altitudes, even in midsummer.

For those of you living in  the 'lowlands', if you can, spend a couple days at an intermediate altitude before ascending to the high altitudes. This will help prevent altitude sickness. If you do start to get sick at higher altitudes, get to a lower altitude as soon as you can.

Plan on bringing a warm coat. A full winter coat probably won't be needed, but a warm jacket very well could be. A sweatshirt or sweater might be helpful as well.

You will also dehydrate more quickly at these altitudes, so a means to stay hydrated is very important!

Hey everyone, here is an update on the camping meals.

We are planning to do the same format for meals that we did in 2014, because it worked so well. There will be some similar and some different meals for this year:

Meals: (in no particular order)
(1) Italian Night (Customize your own Salad, Noodles, Pasta, Bread, Grapes)
(2) Self-serve Breakfast (Yogurt, Granola bars, Assorted fruit, cereal)
(2) Make your own Sandwiches or wraps (multiple options available)
(1-2) Lunch at restaurants (after events)
(1) Mexican Night (Customize your own burritos/tacos, Rice, Beans, Salsa & Chips)
(1) Breakfast (Bagels, Potato Skillet/burritos, eggs)
(1) American BBQ night (grilled veggie/chicken kabobs, corn on the cob, watermelon)
(1) Asian Night (rice, stir fry, noodles)

The cost will be $45 per person for all of these meals. (not including meals at restaurants or snacks. Bring your own snacks! ) Me and Raiden will supply all of the cooking gear and prepare most of the meals!

Just like last year you can either pay via paypal or in person on Saturday. The meals are modular by nature so there will be lots of options for everyone including vegetarian options.

Paypal: [email protected]

*If you would like to opt out please let me know asap

I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

(This info was sent out via email to everyone registered for the camping trip on AvatarMeet.com)
