Toruk is coming to the West Coast of the US for a tour in late 2016 and early 2017!  :toruk:

One of these places is Sacramento, California, starting November 30th. There are other places it is coming in California as well, but Sacramento is just 2.5 hours from my doorstep, and even closer to folks in the Bay area. I thought it might be fun to try and organize a mini meetup at that time, as I know there are a lot of smuk in the Bay area. (This might work around a show stop in the Bay area as well.)

Any ideas/takers?

Its looking like Toruk will be in Sacramento, California in late November/early December, Portland, Oregon in early December, and Las Vegas, Nevada in early January. Anyone interested in a meetup in any of these locations?

Well, it finally happened. I saw Toruk: The First Flight today!
I was not expecting the level of spectacle I actually say.  The person I went with (A broadcast equipment collector like myself, who I did not previously know was a serious Avatar fan! In fact, we stopped and picked up a videotape machine on the way to the show.) summed it up nicely: "A three ring circus". This is a show you can't watch but once. There is so much going on. We both walked out of the arena amazed!

What we didn't like: The airport-style security (which made us go back to the car and dispose of our metal objects), and the steep pitch of the seats in this brand-new arena.

What we liked: Everything else!!

Best moment: When the thanator skeleton was tuned and pointed right at me for several minutes  :palulukan: :) :) :) :)  :palulukan:

Ma Toliman, I hope your desire and the desire of all of the European smuk comes true and you are able to see the show. Better yet, come over here sometime, if you ever can! I'll show you some great dark places out here!

Glad you enjoyed the show my 'eylan.  I'm hoping to come over in March for a a mini-meet to see the show again.  You are right there is so much to see.

I have seen traffic about that mini-meet. I hope it comes together and everyone has fun.

Kinds short notice now, but I am planning on going to the Las Vegas stop of the show. I have a place to stay there hu palulukan apxay :) and I don't have to worry so much about weather in a dangerous mountain pass road. It would be fun if others in the Las Vegas area (and there are a few) could come together for this.

After that, it will be a long wait until the show comes here to Reno. Then, it is a five minute walk from where I work :)

Update on Las Vegas: Things are coming together for attending the Saturday, January 21st 2017 show, probably the afternoon show. Anyone else interested?
The show will be at the new T-Mobile Arena, which is just to the west of the  New York, New York casino.

Figures. The weekend I am supposed to go to 'Vegas to see Toruk, they are forecasting the biggest snowstorm so far of this winter season. I can probably get down to 'Vegas OK, but I pretty much have to be back for Jury duty Monday morning (which will probably be cancelled anyway, but I won't know until I am in the 'Vegas area.). If it wasn't for that, I'd just stay down there an extra day or two. At this point, there is only about a 30% chance I am going to try this trip. And if this fails, it is the last time I will ever try and travel to see Toruk. Failing three out of four times is simply not acceptable.

When I was in High School, one of the biggest good things to ever happen to me-- participating in the State debate tournament, the first time our school had qualified in 22 years-- was blanked out by a Statewide snowstorm. Debate tournaments are held regardless of weather, even though only three of the thirty teams was able to make it through the storm (eventually, ten teams were able to make it by the end of the two day tournament). Our team put many, many hours into preparing for this important event. For many years, this was the biggest 'epic fail' in my life. It was some 20 years before this failure was 'redeemed', when I got to be a judge in the Nevada State Debate Tournament a few years back. (Its ironic that many years later, those debate skills have come in very useful for giving testimony before legislative bodies-- a task I hate (not the speaking part, but what's at stake that I am speaking about.), but I have to do it.)

Grrrrrrrr!

Update: I finally made the decision to stand down. This will probably result in the storm missing us  :( :( :(

Sometimes, there's a silver lining when things go wrong. Because I didn't go to 'Vegas, I was around to give last rites to my fallen lion friend, Kenya. You can read about it on the Community Support page.

And very oddly, jury duty was just canceled, with no explanation.
