A quick question about Na'vi names

I'm a beginner at Na'vi and the Na'vi name I chose for myself is Mysti'i.

On one of my recent posts, someone told me that the letter 'y' in Na'vi nevers behaves like a vowel, so I should substitue the y in Mysti'i for and i or an ì. Which I did. But then I was reading on the official Avatar wiki, and came across something. What about Neytiri's sister's name: Sylwanin? The y in the name is in the same position relating to the consonants as Mysti'i. So, can't my Na'vi name be Mysti'i? Or am I missing a certain rule for the Na'vi language?

I'm a tad confused about this, and would like to learn the correct way.

It's probably James Cameron's spelling.  Some of his spellings got changes to fit Na'vi phonetic rules.  For example "Shahaylu" became "Tsaheylu".

Indeed, there are two cases of "Sylwanin" in the 2007 screenplay, which was before the Na'vi language was developed.  But it's also interesting to note there is one case of "Silwanin" in the same document.

I second what omängum fra'uti said.  "Sylwanin" was probably the way Cameron spelled it; and then, since (at least in the theatrical cut) her name never comes up in the film, the spelling didn't get "Na'vi-fied."  My guess is that what Cameron wanted her name to sound like would be spelled "Silwanìn" in Frommer's Na'vi—but that is entirely a guess on my part.  We'll have to wait and see.

I never knew the original word for tsaheylu was shahaylu!  Interesting...now I will no longer complain about not have the "sh" sound in Na'vi, as personally I think tsaheylu sounds way better.

yea, a sh sound would be very annoying seeing as how it can make things sound like a lisp.  would get ridiculed for being such nerds(not that we arn't) cause it would sound like we had lisps.

Have a look at the illegal words section of the dictionary, we've got quite a few from the ASG and now we've got the words for what they are meant to "literally mean" and the corrected version is completely different so I think Frommer's abandoned them (and rightly so).
