Na'vi Number system (Calculating the Number transition)

So I found out the formula for changing the numbers to and from Na'vi

Na'vi 1-7, 10    = X
Human 1-9, 10    =Y

* Is Multiply

Y= X * .8  eg: 10 * .8 = 8,   1080 x .8 = 864

X=Y + (.25 * Y), Or Y + 25%   eg: 8 + (.25 * 8 )    or 8 + 25% = 10,   864 + (.25 + 864)   or  864 + 25% = 1080
                                              8 + (2) = 10                                        (216) = 1080


Just Thought i should share this,

Just remeber Na'vi will have a larger number because they reach to secound digit set (10) at the number 8 rather than the human 10

Your math is wrong.  864 in decimal is 0o1540.  0o1080 is illegal by the way, there are no 8s in octal... The conversion between decimal and octal is not a linear rate like your equation would imply.  The rate changes with each position.  For example, to convert octal to decimal, lets look at the number 0o1070...

0o1070 -> 1(8^3) + 0(8^2) + 7(8^1) + 0(8^0) which equals 568.

This is great...but UNDERSTANDING Na'vi(octal) numbers first would be for Sure the way to go. This good for converting I guess but you still have to translate.

19 = °23 is a counter example of this calculation method.

Your equations do not always work. They work for powers of eight.

ok so I missed that I had the example in Na'vi wrong I know now it cant be 1080, but rather it should be something more like 1077, or 1100

and yes I see that it doesnt work unless its multiply of 8s, so Im guessing since they should ultimatly come to whole numbers we can round them to the nearest whole number, but otherwise the formula is the only way ive found that works, Glad you caught that error on my part I would never had seen it :P

Here's how I do it. I find this method works well for unhuge numbers, but as the number gets bigger, so does the amount of mental calculation.

Decimal to octal
Split the number into parts; the closest lower multiple of the highest power of eight, then the second highest and so on, and finally the reminder. Then replace them with their Na'vi equivalents.
For example:
53=48+5=6*8+5
6*8=puvol, 5=mrr
53=6*8+5=puvol+mrr=puvomrr

Octal to decimal
This is much simpler. Just split the number into it's different powers of eight, and multiply each part the the appropriate power of eight.
Example:
pxezamkivomun=pxezam+kivol+mune=3*8²+7*8¹+2*8⁰=192+16+2=210

The straightforward multiplication way works the other way too, if you can multiply in octal.

53 = 5 * °12 + 3 = °62 + 3 = °65

Here's the octal multiplication table up to °12 (10) - though for the conversion you can get by with just the °1 and °2 lines which are easy enough.
