You were making a coolface meme earlier, we have recently got a word for "problem", tìngäzìk (tì-ngäzìk)

Check the language update forum for the rest of the words, got a lot of youtuber-vocabulary too (words for hate and ignorant)

How would I say something similar to

"Is dat sum CHIKEN?"

I don't think there's really a "some" per se

"TSA'U [yet unknown words for "some" and "chicken"] LU SRAK?"

There are lots of variants on the "is dat sum" meme though so really I just need "is dat sum"
"Uhh ... we should put it out something that it likes and then when it comes to get it we can kill it."
"Oh yeah heh heh ... cool ... um heh ... what do flies like?"
"Uhh ... they like garbage and crap."
"Oh yeah yeah heh heh ... flies are pretty cool sometimes, yeah eh heh heh."

"Some" is obtained by prepending "-o" to the noun. Example:

Tute - person
Tuteo - some person (somebody/someone)
[21:42:56] <@Muzer> Apple products used to be good, if expensive
[21:42:59] <@Muzer> now they are just expensive

Lu tsaw <noun>o

Is that some <noun>
Yes and no.

"Some chicken" can mean either of two things in English.
The first meaning is the answer to the question "which chicken?". Answer: "some chicken, doesn't matter which".
The second meaning refers to the amount of chicken, rather than the identity. "I want some chicken, please" = "I want a little (amount of) chicken please".

-o only carries the first meaning. For the second, nì'it should be used.
We learn from our mistakes only if we are made aware of them.
If I make a mistake, please bring it to my attention for karma.

Or perhaps hol (adj: few) works.

Or perhaps hol (adj: few) works.

Does it work for uncountable nouns like "chicken"?

Also I was trolling one of my friends on MSN earlier today

Quote
(12:45:21 AM) Ad majorem mei gloriam: did you see Avatar
(1:00:49 AM) Rodrigo: yes
(1:00:57 AM) Ad majorem mei gloriam: lol
(1:01:10 AM) Ad majorem mei gloriam: Oe nerume lì'fyati Na'viyä
(1:01:10 AM) Rodrigo: you?
(1:01:46 AM) Ad majorem mei gloriam: Sran!
(1:03:25 AM) Rodrigo: I think it is a bit overrated
(1:04:15 AM) Rodrigo: by the director also
(1:04:53 AM) Ad majorem mei gloriam: lol
(1:05:58 AM) Ad majorem mei gloriam: Slä tsawru lì'fya amip!
(1:06:04 AM) Ad majorem mei gloriam: bunghole!

What I wanted to say there towards the end was "But it has its own language!"

Instead I got "But it has a new language!". That's not quite satisfactory. How can I say "own" (not in the sense of the verb "to own" but like "its own" or in Swedish "egen")
"Uhh ... we should put it out something that it likes and then when it comes to get it we can kill it."
"Oh yeah heh heh ... cool ... um heh ... what do flies like?"
"Uhh ... they like garbage and crap."
"Oh yeah yeah heh heh ... flies are pretty cool sometimes, yeah eh heh heh."

I was in a hurry

But I understand that

I'm really confused about when to use tsaw or fko or fì'u or whatever btw
"Uhh ... we should put it out something that it likes and then when it comes to get it we can kill it."
"Oh yeah heh heh ... cool ... um heh ... what do flies like?"

I thought fko was more an uncertain-person-pronoun. Like "one shall never..."

tsaru leiu lì'fya seems correct to me.

How can I say "whose"? "Tupeyä"? "Tuperu"?

"Whose book is this?"

"Fìpuk lu tuperu?"

I was just thinking of trivial things to say to expand my knowledge, then I thought "Whose society?" No full sentence, just "Whose society?" Granted, I don't know the word for "society," but what then?

Also: "Why should I tell you?" My attempt: "Pelun oe piveng ngaru?"

The issues I see are that I know of no modal verb for "ought to" and the case that is appropriate with peng is unclear. It says vtr. in the dictionary but I have seen some instances of "piveng ngaru".

That is a very good question and for once I have no idea. Probably tuperu, though.

We don't really have a word for should. It's a necessity. Maybe: what need is there for me to tell you?

I'mma just use subjunctive for now

Alright how's this

"Ngal ke kamänge tireati aylì'fyayä, ma Ron"

"You just don't understand the magic of languages, Ron"

See context:

http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?p=18111502#post18111502

"You just don't UNDERSTAND man"

That's what I was going for
"Uhh ... we should put it out something that it likes and then when it comes to get it we can kill it."
"Oh yeah heh heh ... cool ... um heh ... what do flies like?"
"Uhh ... they like garbage and crap."
"Oh yeah yeah heh heh ... flies are pretty cool sometimes, yeah eh heh heh."

I'mma try something from Carl Sagan. Something that would fit Na'vi easily

"Every cell is a triumph of natural selection and we're made of trillions of cells; within us is a little Universe"

"Tìslä tìftxeyä Eywayä lu frareyvi ulte ayoeng ta txantxana ayreyvi; ayoengmì lu Eywavi"

There's no word for triumph but I assume "tìslä" is appropriate

"Tìftxeyä Eywayä" - "natural selection" ... I wanted "will of Gaia" but I suppose this is better

"Reyvi" is used to mean "cell" here (diminutive of "life")

Not sure how to say "made of" I just went with a sort of Germanic route and used "ta" - "from". I was thinking of "aus".

"txantxan" is my invention there's no word for "countless" that I know of and I have no idea how to say "trillions" so I just redoubled "txan" it has a kind of nice tribal ring

"Eywavi" - "microcosm"

"Eywavi" - "microcosm"

Hmm. I wouldn't use tì-, because it's not entirely productive, and it's often possible to work around it, if not with so much grace. For instance, in the first clause, I would do this:

sweya 'u a zamolunge ta tìftxeyä Eywayä lu reyviri
best-adj thing which comes-PERF from choice-GEN Eywa-GEN is the cell-TOP

reyvi is good - but -vi isn't really diminutive, it's sort of a partitive. What might be best is reytsyìpvi - bit of little life. Or even reyvitsyìp - little bit of life. But since I'm not sure if these two meanings are possible, we'll just go with reyvi.

And then I would have a bit more fun with this second clause. Txantxan isn't a word. pxay takes the singular form.

ulte leiu ayoeng txana pxaya reyviru
and is-LAUD we very-  many- cell-DAT (possessive, attributive to mean composed of. I think it works.)

And then I would definitely use Eywatsyìp. and Leiu.

Sounds good man.

anyone who is royally confused by the previous, remember that I meant flä rather than slä

And we have determined off the forum that the final form should be (more or less)

"Tìflä tìftxeyä Eywayä leiu frareyvi ulte leiu ayoeng txana pxaya ay?reyviru; ayeongmì leiu Eywatsyìp."

"I want to add: it isn't always ethical to X Y"

"Oe new sivung: tì+<us>+X Y+case marker muiä ke lu frakrr"

ex: "Oe new sivung: tìskusa'a lahea hifkeyti ke lu frakrr muiä"

also shouldn't the noun in "[number > 3] [nouns]" have ay- and/or lenition

also: "ìnglìsìri, ma skxawng! Nga tsun plltxe tsaru srak?" good?
