So, I have an idea which can also be incorporated into more advanced Na'vi and not just Beginner.

If you have been to a School which requires you to learn a language, you commonly have a teacher or a class and someone to guide you. With this being something which happens in School, we could have something similar. Possibly a Discord or Teamspeak server which allows people to do lessons. If not Teamspeak or Discord then Skype.

I personally, highly suggest Teamspeak. But to rent a server it does cost money, which is a slight disadvantage. However, Discord is a free alternative. Although it is more of a Skype and Teamspeak mix up kind of thing, it is better than Skype.

With these, we could do lessons and possibly exams/tests/assessments, like in School. However, there is no due date and people can do it whenever they want. Some admins/moderators or experts at Na'vi, could be the teachers or assessers.

Not only could we have lessons and tests, we could also have something similar to Homework. For example, learn some words, make a list etc.

I am personally, not an expert at Na'vi. I am actually a beginner, so there is no use in me being a Teacher. It would be hard and some people would not be on a lot, but I guess it would help. This would help me, and many others a lot. If you have any questions, I am glad to take some PMs or just post them below.

Remember, this can be incorporated into different skill levels.

We have a server on both Discord and Teamspeak. For TS the server is at ts.learnnavi.org (when you join via the software) or on the channel #TS at irc.learnnavi.org, and for Discord here's the invite: https://discord.gg/0rRUUBeXPU9M6vwD.
The problem is that nobody has the time or the will to teach. Even the Neytiri Project, which was relaunched, is inactive.

Afaik there's still the german study group around, but about english groups I have no clue. You're welcome to join our TS3/Discord to have a chat with us there and maybe learn a thing or two, even though there might be no classes going on. :) Best choice would be this forum here tho, I guess, since it's stuffed with helpful stuff (this here and here e.g.) and members who could help you.

I think there's no lesson in English at the moment. Well, I'm sure there isn't. We're at the point where either people change their job or their personal life or we wait until the sequels.

The Ngaynume project was born with this kind of learning in mind, unfortunately there is almost no activity these days. :(

Personally, I got used to be on the TeamSpeak every time when I am doing something Na'vi-related and the situation allows me to participate with voice.
Yet these conditions are met not so often as I want to.

I don't want to make you walk away, but this is the general situation. There's work to do, but we need the resources.

Kaltxì ma Nì'awtu,

well, I also find it sad that there is no stable English/American study group.

Maintaining a study group can be a lot of work. After 4 more or less 'failed' attempts we tried to go about it in a more relaxed way in our German study group. For now it works – it's the most stable we've had so far. But it's still a challenge.

Sometimes people stop by to listen in, but it's hard to learn a language via another foreign language. It's even harder because of the time zone difference to tune in when something is going on in the European region.

I never had the opportunity to try and test the sound quality in discord ... and frankly I felt sad that so many people 'abandoned' our TS3 server – it's there, why not use it? I won't warm up to discord any time soon. For now I'm a user of TS3 for those study sessions and group talk.

Don't give up, ma tsmuk, you'll find a way ;) And if there is no opportunity, create one :)

I would be willing to attempt to find time to host lessons on our Discord. I find that platform more convenient on my devices.

Many people here already said what I was gonna say.

Project Ngaynume was basically exactly this. TS3 lessons on a weekly basis around the world in different time zones. Sadly, there aren't many people actively teaching [In English] by means of lessons especially in a classroom format, even more rare, a vocal classroom environment.

I do dearly miss the good ol days of having that.

I'll see what I can do to be more active on our LN Discord.

As for TS3, if there is a really compelling reason for me to install that on all my stuff, I suppose I will.

Tirea Aean

I've thought more about this.

If this becomes a regular thing, maybe it deserves its own thread :)

How was it? I could only attend a few minutes ... the time difference is just too great and it was too late for my taste ;)

Hope you all had fun in talking to each other

Summary of last night's session:

# get everything set up,
# wait for some ppl,
# casual intro,
# emphasis on communicating and having fun rather than total correctness cuz it's not a job or school,
# go over a couple greetings (kaltxì+oel ngati kameie),
# pronounce stuff,
# much off topic chatter.

Atkxìn

I would love to come to a Discord lesson. I'm bummed I missed out this week, even if most of it was "off topic chatter." Will this be happening again this Saturday?
