Hey. There's something you can create to make learning Na'vi a whole lot easier: a Na'vi KIT!!! Here's How:
1. Buy a super-cheap folder.
I have a folder that I colored to match the extremely-pretty colors on Pandora. I t works for now, but consider buying a three-ring binder with paper-pockets for worksheets and stuff.
2. Buy Note-Cards and Rings
Consider how many words you want to learn. Consider the different colors. You could buy multiple colors, one for nouns, one for adjectives, one for pronouns, one for verbs, etc. Remember that you might want one ring for each, too.
3. Find and Print
Google "Na'vi worksheets" and find ones on your level. Print the Na'vi Dictionary and keep it as a reference. Also consider printing "Na'vi in a Nutshell", by NeoTrekkerZ.
Don't forget the Na'vi Activity Book!

PS: To make your life even MORE easy, write a list of basic words that you think are vital to know. Start memorizing this first. It'll give you a place to start, verses the vast dictionaries that you have to sort to find useful words. (hint: Pronouns are really important. DO NOT FORGET!!!)

Hope This Helps.

just watch out- the dictionary gets updated faster than rabbits multiply. and the worksheets are Kinda outdated.

There is a new user handbook in the works. perhaps you should check that out. when it is released it will be super helpful for the new member. (and/or beginner na'vi learner)

Not a bad idea. I think I remember Taronyu mentioning that the dictionary gets updated every week or so though, so keeping an up-to-date dictionary could be difficult. I like the idea of having all your Na'vi things in one place though, right now mine are just mixed in with all my school papers.
Join the real life Na'vi tribe here  (And yes, it will be a real tribe in the real world, NOT a role play tribe!)

I'd printed out the dictionary and the Navi script from Avatar, and recently I've spent my lunch time either reading the dictionary, which is kind of boring, or reading the script and using it to learn vocabulary and sentence construction, which is a little more interesting.

I like your ideas, they sound a lot more fun.

Mllte.  Kop, tì'efumì oeyä, the LN Activity book is going to need a few updates of its own, especially now that we have a lot more vocab.  It's also got remnants of old-style Na'vi (e.g. neu instead of new)....

I have noticed that the dictionary keeps updating fast also. Is there a standard stable version that is around.  I want to keep learning, but find myself frustrated when I think I have something down only to find out that it has changed.  Thanks for any guidance you guys can give.

well... just get the dictionary NOW. it is quite stable. the only thing that will change now, is usage, after clarification. so heres the best way to do it:

DONT PRINT IT ON PAPER!

unless youre gonna print it out at least about once a month.

it is a developing language. we are learning it AND pioneering it at the same time. this language is not even close to being done as for lexical entries in the dictionary. so the solution to a constantly updating dictionary:

PUT THIS LINK IN YOUR BOOKMARKS AND USE IT INSTEAD OF PRINTING:

http://eanaeltu.learnnavi.org/dicts/NaviDictionary.pdf

that way, every time you open it, it will already be updated and correct.

downloading the PDF and printing it out only causes the situation that frustrates you. ;D hope this helps.

I agree on that! Working with the film quotes can be very stimulating and interesting for someone who doesn't like strict theoretical stuff :) However, grammar is ultimately very important and can't be avoided.

For my part, I have printed the dictionary, but I have to say it wasn't such a good idea, because as has been said it's always evolving.. I think it's perhaps mostly good for the part at the end on numbers, time and useful phrases, because these are really useful things that are, if I am not mistaken, pretty established. :) I guess there are probably updates there as well, though.

I like the tricks you gave :D In my case, here's what I do:
1) Reading the Na'vi in a Nutshell chapters one at a time. Once I got a clear picture of the content, I think of a way to organize it, and then I write a summary sheet with the informations put up in the way and order that's best for me.
2) Once I did a chapter in this manner, I try assimilating the information, and when I think I have memorized/understood it pretty well, I take my separate Exercise Binder, and I make up some exercises or do a vocab list. I only go on to the next chapter when I feel I've integrated the previous chapter satisfyingly.
3) Once in a while, I concentrate on vocabulary and useful phrases because, although grammar is very important, vocabulary is unavoidable, too.

It's maybe not the perfect method, but it works fine for me. ;D

I like this. The thing is, if you do this, would you have to go thru the entire NiaN in order to post in the Na'vi nì'aw forum? im not sure thats a good idea. I have personally found that retention and the learning sticks and is effective when I use it often. rules and words i use often and see often, I remember. those I dont use/see often i tend to forget until it comes up again. perhaps there is something you do to practice other than your self made exercises? OH and perhaps you could put them up on the forum that others may benefit from using them as well?

Yes, it's true that for a moment I couldn't post at all in Na'vi because I hadn't even done the verbs yet. :P I just find it difficult to learn the grammar in a way that would be both allow me to know how to construct full phrases quickly, and to retain the information on a long-term basis. I should maybe look at everything in more general terms for now, so that I know pretty much the basic stuff that's important, and then visit the Na'vi nì'aw forum and try writing some stuff in Na'vi. Then, after this, I could concentrate on the theory more deeply.

My exercises are really a mess and much of it isn't really questions, but mostly some quick summaries or comments. I'm going to look at it though, and try making up something I could share on the forum! :)

I love stationery!!!! I have a cool blue book just for Na'vi writings. Haven't used it much lately though, for reasons unknown.

If anyone has an iPhone or iPod Touch, I would suggest downloading the FREE Learn Na'vi App. It has the dictionary on it and whenever there's a new update it gives you an alert the next time you go to the app. It's quite handy :)

PS I heard there were some compatibility issues on the iPod Touch, but Idk any details about that.
