For a constructed language to experience healthy development it needs literature, prehaps translations of well-known book titles into the language, just as there are a few translations into Klingon which helps make the language feel more real and robust.

For Na'vi to develop as a constructed language it needs to be taken outside the context of Avatar, there's no point in learning a language if the only thing you're going to be able to understand is a few lines from a film, however, if there are books and literature available in the language, then it definately becomes a lot more appealing.

Is any literature in the pipeline currently, or is Na'vi in a bit of a grey area in terms of development and where it's going?

This strikes me as a false dichotomy.  There is a lot of ground between reading translations of Hamlet and only understanding lines from the film, where a language can thrive.

We've also got a midsummer night's dream project and I think there was a project that never quite got underway to translate animal farm.

For the language to thrive, it needs a connected body of speakers. Honestly, I think an official, extensive lexicon would be the most helpful in building that and enabling people to translate other works into Na'vi.

And I'd love to see Animal Farm happen. It's one of my favorite books!

Well, translating the Lord's Prayer is a fairly standard linguistic exercise, and one that i took a stab at a long time ago...it's in the forums here somewhere...  But yeah, i'm with you.  Personally, i thought William's Coyote Tale translation was a great idea; i feel like, with the vocab we have, the stories and songs of various indigenous cultures probably translate into Na'vi more easily than, say, Star Wars.

I don't think you have to worry too much about that. No one will be going to Pandora-- if it even exists-- anytime soon. The bible-into-Na`vi project will likely  take years to get right, anyway. Not much is being done on the Bible-into-Na`vi project right now as we work on infrastructure issues, and having a wider vocabulary available.

Famous speeches would be good-- and undoubtedly challenging.

What would be useful, and doable now, would be some Na`vi stories created from scratch, by an imaginative writer!

I would love to do this at some point, but as it stands at the minute I know about 5 words so it probably wouldn't be very helpful

I'm with you fully here, as far as the Bible-thumbing goes, at least.  It's bad enough that there's a project underway for Klingon, and what has been done on 'Rrta is bad enough.
Famous speeches, I can deal with, though; great Earthly literature (Hamlet and other), ditto.
