Learning the language is getting a bit boring now, its not as exciting as it used ot be. Did this happen to you guys?, if so what did you do to counter it? I just feel like I`m progressing slowly now...  :-\

Ekirä

I felt that way too....what rekindled it for me was when Frommer started his blog. (http://naviteri.org)

There's a ton of cool stuff on it, even though I can't understand much....I'm only a beginner.

I've gone in phases, as well. What fixes it for me is this:

Take a week off.

Then watch avatar.

Then go and talk to people on the team speak.

And you'll come back. :)

Naaw I just had the problem, I thought I didnt know a thing, but then I got motivated by somebody and I know more then I thought ^^

To watch Avatar again has helped some, but sadly, there's too many that never comes here again after they made their introduction thread.

At the end of the day, your commitment to this language does depend on your free time and continued interest. But don't take it too seriously! It is just a hobby, a fun thing to do with free time, a new way to look at the world, an exercise. If you don't view it as a major commitment but rather as something that's amusing to do, that's fun to play with, you'll probably end up here more than not. Right? :)

The key to not burning out on anything is to not overdo it :P

In my first month here I did work very hard on it (several hours a day). Then I got a new job and couldn't spend so much time on it anymore. That also was in the time when I already finished learning all units in NiaN and I also wondered how I could get better then because I technically knew the most important rules and words. But now, that I know the most important things at work and not am exhausted after a day of work anymore because it became some kind of routine, I can spend more time on it again. AND - what was very surprising - I'm now better than before my time-out in which I just used it about two/three times a day. :D It's just like learning before you go to sleep and your brain will work on it while you sleep and the next morning you can do any test in it, because you've learnt it while sleeping...
Back to the topic again: What I meant to say is, that Taronyu's idea is great. And when you come back, you'll probably see that you're better than before and that also makes you a lot more interested and motivated again. At least I have this experience. :P

Same.

Don't set too high short-term goals, and try and use the language wherever you can. Much of learning a language is simply tedious.

I'll admit that I haven't been doing much learning in the past couple months, but my life has been a bit crazy and turned on its head.  Hopefully I'll have more time when things settle down.  But I still use the language whenever I can, whether muttering to myself, or trying to teach some phrases to friends.

That's what happened to me, I started geting burnt out so I took a little break and that helped alot. I guess it's just like anything else, no matter how fun it is if you overdo it then it loses it's fun.
And watching avatar and understanding some of what they said was fun  too :D

Yeah, if you don't take breaks, it gets kinda boring. But I find it strangely enjoyable.

This helped, I feel more interested now!

I just printed out Na'vi in a Nutshell--I am completely re-inspired! It is the best thing ever I've seen (granted, I haven't seen much) on all the grammar rules. But it's really, really great. Oeyä Nantang, if you want to download it, I got it from the sidebar on Paul Frommer's blog: http://naviteri.org/

To the person who wrote it, NeotrekkerZ, irayo! I don't know who you are, but Na'vi in a Nutshell is a life saver.

Lolet

That's what I use. It's so simple! But sometimes I wish I could be taught, like in a classroom.

Ekirä

That would be SO GREAT. Go to class, learn stuff, get homework. I would have Na'vi down in no time. ;D Even just having a tutor!

Like Spanish! But more interesting. I had a good teacher, but she wrote the homework in Spanish. Kind of a problem.

It's hard to know where to start when learning languages by yourself.

Yeah it would be WAY more interesting than Spanish. Besides, because there are less people learning Na'vi than people learning Spanish, so you would probably get a crowd that sort of had your same interests. ;D
