Movie translation

Hi, found this clip on youtube: Avatar Exclusive Clip - Making the Bond (English)

Can hear Tsu'tey speaking some na'vi, perhaps some analysis is in order.
I can hear that he's underpopping his skxawng. and I can also hear him say tsamsiyu (warrior) somewhere in the middle.

The first thing I hear is at 0:56 when Tsu'try is shooing of an ikran he says "hus", possibly the Na'vi word for shoo.

Then at 1:02 he says (t)samsiyu (I think it's a short plural but not certain) tok uterati (not at all sure about this but 5 minutes puzzling didn't get me any further) (t)samsiyu.

Then at 1:11 I think he says tsak empra (which is illegal) utsi.

At 1:27 when he's calling him a skxawng but a normal k I hear "tìepu skawng".

At 1:44 one of the other candidates start whooping yai-ya

At 1:53 Tsu'tey says Txopu rey atsi tsamsiyu (although again with an underpopped ejective and the ts becoming a s), the first two words are fear live, maybe this should mean "fear for your life warrior" and the ma has been dropped.

2:18 the candidate who started whooping earlier cries ke-ke which if a literal phrase would be no-no but I think it's probably just an excited cry.

Then at 2:41 srane (yes)

That's all the Na'vi dialogue. Not sure about the atsi in the 1:53 section or the 1:27 or 1:11 sections.

Wow, that translation is great. Thanks. It was so hard to hear what he`s saying in this scene.

offtopic - notice when Neytiri arrives at the cave, just before that scene, she greats Tsu`Tey whit "Ngati Kame". Seems to me this is intentionally done to show she doest like Tsu`Tey very much. Also he replies whit only a quick gesture.

It sounds like "Mefo tarìm". I'm pretty sure he says yìm (not rìm), but the ta- makes no sense.

Mefo-t((i)) yìm.

There is a slight vowel between the two words but it is probably just the connection between the ACC (which sometimes ends "ti") and the start of the verb.

yes after listening again it's definitely srane, which makes sense.

I noticed some of the un-subtitled phrases that neytiri says e.g. when she kills the nantang (viperwolf) near the start of the movie are different from the phrases in the original scriptment (here) e.g. she seems to say 'maway' (calm) in the movie but in the scriptment it's 'forgive me'. Or am I just remembering wrong? You know this will get a whole lot easier once the movie comes out on DVD and I can pause it

The scriptment is actually older than that, that's the original 2007 screenplay, which is a bit more advanced in the production cycle.

However she does say "Forgive me" before she says calm... "Oeru txoa livu"...

As far as I heard she says something like "tam tam, Seze".
The end is easy, it's the name of her ikran.
The first might be "tawng" meaning either "dive" or "duck".
Since Neytiri wants to mount her ikran I think it's the second meaning:
"Tawng tawng, Seze"
"Duck/get down, Seze."

That's funny , second time I saw the movie I was trying to catch more and understand more about the Na'vi language with the subtitles but this time for some reason it looked to me that there were less subtitles this time then there were in the first time, I know this sounds weird...

I quite agree with the post above about Neytiri and her Ikran, makes sense.

I'd really like to see a list of all the Na'vi lines translated like this. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what he was saying!

Yeah, I heard that too.

tam is "to suffice". But we don't often say to our animals "That will suffice, buddy". Maybe "That'll do" or "That's enough" or less literally "good, good".

Keep in mind that Tsun tivam (can suffice) means "not bad" so tam obvious doesn't carry the same weight as the word "suffice" does in our language.

Taronyu has it is his dictionary as "calm, be content, there there", but I'm not sure where he got those translations from. They aren't in that old script that's been circulating, but they seem like an good (loose) translation.
