So, those of you who have Na'vi names.... how did you pick them? Is there a database of Na'vi names used in the movie? How are the names formed normally? Anyone know what Neytiri means, for example?

I think it would be nice to have this be a thread for names to be chosen, discussed, given, and otherwise made to happen.

Taruia

I second this motion! I have been trying to figure out a good Na'vi name for myself...but so far have failed to come up with anything worth sharing lol

Brainiac

try to find the etymological meaning for your name, and translate it to Na'vi

Tirealì'u

I just took two words that made a phrase I liked... :-P

omängum fra'uti

I just took something people call me sometimes and wrote it in Na'vi.  I'll let you figure it out. :)

Then I should change my name to Txep... :)

Karyu Amawey

It appears that the Na'Vi are really big on titles being their names.  Neytiri doesn't necessarily have any etymology at this point, but her surname "Dis'kahan A'itey" which means daughter of Mo'at and Eytukan, or rather their roles as chief and religious leader.  I chose my name Karyu Amawey "Calm Teacher" because I am really interested in helping out anyone who may be having difficulties with the language.  It really is just what you want your image to be :)

Nume fpi sänume

For my name I just went with what I wanted to do, Nume fpu sänume, Learn for the sake of teaching. There are many ways to choose a name, none is "right" or "wrong", just your own choice.

Ta'em tskxe

Umm, yeah "Rock from above" .....

Lets just say that I was playing the PS3 Avatar movie game and we nicknamed my ikran "brick" because he steered like one, I spent more time with my head against a rock than flying straight. In their infinite wisdom, "the guys" made that name stick....

I think it can also have other meaning so it's not too bad.

:)

Ta'em tskxe - the 'rock from above'.
This describes my ikran flying style, it may also contain greater meaning.
Read into it what you will..

There's no word for dog, is there? Or horse?

The reaosn I ask is because horses and dogs (as well as all animals really) are my life's work... so I was hoping to create a name related to that.

Any suggestions? xx

tute nuereime

I inferred mine from the film, before I even looked at any of the material. Probably a stupid decision, probably got it wrong, definitley not one to stand out from the crowd.

Eh. I tried. I've always wanted to be a pilot, really.
