Kaltxì ma Tirea Aean,

when you use pxay as adj., or use a number as adj., then you use singular form.

pxaya ikran = many banshees
mrra tute = five people

<ay> is future infix, ay+ is plural prefix ;D Interesting things.

Kaltxì ma Tirea Aean,
I'm a bit confused. If ay+ makes plural, so why didn't it make <clouds> into <ayfìwopx>? What did I miss? :-\

Tìtstewan

ay+ is a prefix and infixes are marked as <yxz> like <iv> in p<iv>llte.

QuoteIf ay+ makes plural, so why didn't it make <clouds> into <ayfìwopx>? What did I miss?
Of course, clouds in Na'vi is ayfìwopx (ay+ pìwopx). As you already know, ay+ cause lenition p->f, so plural is ayfìwopx, not *aypìwopx. BUT: if ay+ causes lenition, ALMOST EVERY TIME is ay+ dropped, so ayfìwopx -> fìwopx. You know that it is plural by lenited first letter, so ay is not necessary. But ayfìwopx is correct too, you can used it safely until you become more familiar with dropping ay after lenition.

yes, it is because of syllable structure (it can't be started by rr or ll)

yes, it is because of syllable structure (it can't be started by rr or ll)

so therefore no words starting with 'll -or- 'rr can have lenition; it just stays as is.
