OK, so I was trying to translate posts in the Na'vi only board, and I couldn't find some of the words spoken. Granted, I'm not an awesome translator or anything, but I swear, they weren't in the dictionary!

This is my translation:

QuoteTse, oel fpamìl futa säfpìl awngeyä 'eylanä Kemaweyan lamu txantsan, ha hufwa ke latsu Trr leNa'vi askepek  oel pole'un futa oe pamrel si teri tìtìran ahì'i a kem sami hola srr a ftolem. Prrte' livu.

Well (Tse = Well, Conversation starter), I (Oe = I, -l = ergative case, making Oe the subject) thought (to think + am, which is past tense) that idea we (or our) friend's (Male Proper Noun, probably a name) was (be, is, am or are in the past tense) excellent, so although not keep up with someone (?) day in Na'vi askepek (?) ;) I he (something else) that I writing make about (something) little which/that thing (action)/deed made/did few (?) which/that passed by/away.
Take pleasure.

List of words I couldn't find:
Kemaweyan
Askepek
Latsu
pole'un
tìtìran

And of course, I am still very much learning it all, so I would love some pointers! :D

I've run into that situation as well, and I find that for me, one contributing problem is caused by all the infixes (those varying letter groups that go inside of words).  Which I'm still wrapping my brain around.

One thing I've found extremely helpful is the Ayli'uä Fwewyu dictionary search application.  (http://forum.learnnavi.org/your-projects-other-resources/learn-navi-desktop-dictionary/)   It recognizes many of the infixes and that makes it easier to figure out the root word.

Very nice application.

Kemaweyan = the name of a person on this forum
Askepek = a-skepek = formal
Latsu = L<ats>u = might/must be(an assumtion)
pole'un = p<ol>e'un = decided(perfectice aspect)
tìtìran = tì-tìran--> should be tì-t<us>ìran = (the act of)walking

aylì'uä fwewyu is OK with inflection recognition. it is correct 65%-70% of the time.

I have it. I would Learn all the infixes and all the words. then you can recognize an inflected form of the word

even better: join my 100 strong student body in am exciting new way of learning Na'vi a more natural way! :D click the pic in my sig. hope this helps.

No, tìtìran is valid and distinct from tìtusìran, tìtìran would be the abstract noun derived from to walk which is a walk, albeit with probably a slightly different usage than in English whereas tìtusìran is, as you say, the act of walking.

I realize the possibility of "a walk". but tìtìran isn't in the dict so I wasn't so sure about it. ( Paul said that tì, sä, nì, and le forms are not entirely productive and such forms should be documented as tì derivations are not easily predictable as far as meaning.)

It may not be entirely productive or predictable, but, based on the examples we have so far, it is broadly, and the na'vi nì'aw board isn't about building correctness so much as fluency.

My posts in the Na'vi nì'aw board are not nearly as frequent as they were (or as frequent as I would like.) that said,

You are right: There have been many words just made up by the people in there for the sake of posting in Na'vi nì'aw(not for correctness, but for fluency)...I personally would not post in there about things which we do not have the vocab for yet. If I post in there, I try <very hard> to use words that exist...the only words that I would use that arent would be Earthly Proper Nouns such as names of cities and other places and/or people's names...and even those, I would pass through the na'vi sound system, if possible, and put a description or spoiler with the name as we know it...(all this to avoid any confusion and such.)

of course, Thats just my 1 and a half cents on it. ;)

So, I'm not wrong when I get all confused about stuff in that forum?

Whew. This stuff is tough!

well For the most part, stuff is legit...yeah i can totally understand how you can get confused reading NN posts.

They definately know their stuff as far as noun cases, adpositions, lenition, and verb tenses...all things which the Root of them are put in the dictionary...this would explain why there many words in NN that you will not be able to find in the dictionary, but are made of things that ARE in there.

Random edit: Fmawntu Anusume...are you a learning journalist? lol jw because that is what your name makes you sound like. :)

Based on what I am reading on this thread, how would one go about deciding they are ready for Na`vi Ni`aw? I have not yet spent any time there.

The best way to know if you are ready is to go in and find out how much of the stuff you can read and how fast.

...is exactly what I have to say on this matter as well. it is good immersion practice either way. I understand everything in there, whether they make a mistake or not..that's just because I'm so used to the language. I have been obsessing over it for months straight...explains a lot. hrh
