@ What Neytiri says to Seze: Literal interpretation won't get us all the way there, I don't think. Her tone and body language tell me she is saying "there, there" almost to the letter. Look at how she moves and how she is smiling and calming Seze. It makes a lot of sense considering she is talking to an animal. It's not as though an animal (even an Ikran) can understand the words, but they understand the body language and tone.

@ What Tsu'tey says (yells) to the other two warriors when they are cheering for Jake: I really want to know what he says! It does sound like "ois" but is that even a word or combination of words that makes sense?

Totally sounds like "Tam, tam Seze" to me.

As for Tsu'tey, I have no idea. It sounds something like "oish" or something like that but that's definitely no word that we know. It may just be something along the lines of "shush" or some other phrase.

Ois is a legal sound but I can't hear tsu'tey shouting anything at the warriors when they're cheering, is it in the clip?

The only thing I can think of is that it is a bit like the "hus" he says to the ikran as he shoos them of and that he uses again when he's chucking RDA soldiers off the Shuttle.

did anyone else notice that near the end where jake is giving speach, and Tsu'tey is translating.
and when jake says "we'll fly out as fast as the wind can carry us" and tsu'tey say's wind instead of hufwe ??

There was one thing I noticed at the end of the speech, though, now that you mention it.

I was waiting to hear Tsu'tey attempt "atxkxe" for land, in the last line "This is our land" but never heard it... I'm not sure if perhaps Tsu'tey's translation of Jake's speech is pre-translated (translated into Na'vi with knowledge of the entire speech from start to finish, not just sentence fragments) and I missed it in a previous line from Tsu'tey or if he used a different word altogether.

He just said "Our this-place" - a short form of saying "This place is ours". His translation was actually a bit presumptuous, because Jake had said "And that this..." to which he announced "Fìtsenge" even though any hint that "this" was referring to a location was purely contextual.

Ah yes, that would explain why it seemed like he just said "ayoengä" (wasn't there a "lu" in there?) after "this is our land."

One thing I wanted to mention here too, "tsakem rä'ä si" (That thing) do not do. Why would it be worded this way? Isn't rä'ä a verb in its own right? Shouldn't it have been "Tsakem rä'ä," an imperative statement with an implied "You," (without any apparent marker, I might add).

It seems to me it definitely should've either been "Tsakem rä'ä" or "Tsakem ke si."

Apparently not. It's not uncommon for languages to have a different negating word (not) for imperatives (commands). The translation "do not" in the Activist Survival Guide seems to have been the way to indicate that. Txopu rä'ä si don't be afraid is another likely line from the film.

Hmm, either way this is somewhat enlightening.

I'd wager that you're correct on that, but then what part of speech would it fill if not a verb. I can't really think of anything else it could be with a meaning like "do not."

I suppose I should also say, before we take off on a tangent like this, that perhaps he isn't saying rä'ä, but rather something else remarkably similar, since it does sound like 'a' not 'ä' and I can almost here a possible 't' between the 'a' and the 's'. Although, it being rä'ä and Tsu'tey pronouncing it incorrectly is not out of the question, since his pronunciations do not seem to be the best.

Yeah I noticed that too. Neytiri dismounted from her ikran and smiled at Jake, then barely nodded to Tsu`Tey. When Tsu`Tey said "JakeSully will go first!" Neytiri gave him a cold look that spoke volumes. It was clear to me that she already liked Jake at that point. That's Neytiri for you, she was a feisty one; it didn't seem to matter that she was supposed to mate with Tsu`Tey, she wanted Jake - but it all turned out for the best, so it could be that Eywa encouraged her in that direction. Who knows what dreams and visions she might have received on the subject...
