Reyona's Translations
« on: January 09, 2012, 02:18:12 pm »
Figured I'd rather not start a topic every time I do a passage, so I'm going to post all my translations here, starting with my most recent.

(Thanks to TA for the modifications made in blue, though I still prefer using the dative with za'u ;))
(Thanks to 'Eltu for the modifications made in green)

Za'u ne oe, aynga a ngeyn sì levrrìn 'efu, ulte oel tasyìng tìtsurokxit ngaru. - Matt. 11:28NIV "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Oe tsun frakem sivi nìwotx mì Krrì'stu a tìng oeru tìtxurit. -Phillipians 4:13NIV "I can do all this through Him who gives me strength."

NIV 1 "LORD, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain?
2 The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart;
3 whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others;
4 who despises a vile person but honors those who fear the LORD; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind;
5 who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken."

Nì'eveng, ngal ke lek tìkawngit a namong nga tsakrr yaymak lamu nga, slä nìKxrrì'stu a pamlltxe ngaru keteng lu mì fra'u. - 1 Peter 1:14-15

NOT EDIT: there is a word that ACTUALLY means funny as in humorous as in haha. that is 'ipu. We no longer have to continue taking hiyìk (funny as in "HUH. That's funny. O_o I coulda swore[...]") out of context ;D

So therefore Oe tsun kem sivi ayu-ti nìwotx would be correct and Oe tsun kem sivi ayu nìwotx would be incorrect.

NO. ;D

did you watch my YouTube series on Na'vi Cases for the Non-linguist Beginner Part I ?

it doesn't even make sense to have ayu there at all. whether it's ayu or ayuti. what's wrong with frakem si?

EDIT:

Here is what Pawl says about "___ si" verbs:

kaltxì ma oeyä eylan. (ayngal snìmaytx uvanit.)

So here is the email conv between me and Frommer:

Quote from: Paul Frommer 5/6/10
Kaltxì ma Tirea Aean,

Ngeyä 'upxareri seiyi oe irayo.

"Si constructions" are unusual, I know. So let me try to clarify them a bit for you:

It is correct that they're syntactically intransitive, with the "object" in the dative. One of the clearest examples is with "srung si," which as you know is the verb "help." In English, "help" is transitive--A helps B, and B is the direct object. But in Na'vi, it's more along the lines of "A engages in or performs help for (the sake of) B." So "I help you" is "Oe srung si ngaru"--literally, "I do helping to you."

Some si-constructions correspond to intransitives in English, and these don't take a dative: examples are "kelku si" (dwell) and "tìkangkem si" (work). But "kavuk si" (betray) works like "srung si":

Po kavuk soli awngar.
He betrayed us. (More literally, he engaged in betrayal to us.)

[...]

This is obviously a minor update. From this we confirm that uvan si = play a GAME(and nothing else.)

DOUBLE EDIT: This is where we got Kem si: http://naviteri.org/2011/02/new-vocabulary-part-2/

frakem si is not official, but based on kem si and kekem ke si being official and that kem si nor kekem ke si cannot take the thing being done as a direct object but rather to whom it is being done as an indirect object, i chose to use frakem si. it seems to me rather intuitive and simple.

bump post welcomed on the grounds of announcing major edits, which otherwise would have gone silent and unnoticed.

in the green edit, remove the l suffix from Christ. you used mì there,which also by the way wourd lenite that kx into k.

will be back to check on the rest later.

God wants...never thought of doing it that way.
