My favorite genres pertain to subjects I like: math, science, other puzzle books and other activity books, bridge books, and sometimes books on music theory/study.  I have never quite liked (and will probably never get into) fiction of various sorts (except maybe scifi).

I love old Physics and Math textbooks! For Fiction novels, I like Mystery and Ben Mezrich novels, whatever they are categorised as. However, most of his novels are adaptions of true stories.

I like fantasy/sci-fi and mystery best.  I have a theory that these (and romance, too) are popular because they're essentially grown-up fairy tales.  Good/love wins, evil usually gets walloped.  As for nonfiction, I love puzzle books.

Definitely fantasy (LOTR and Harry Potter all the way). I voted for Sci-fi too, but I'm SO picky about my science fiction that I might as well hate the genera. Some of my favorites, though, are science fiction and I'm even writing a semi-science fiction book.

I guess for a third genera I'd go with "Mystery", but again that's not fair. It just so happens that some of my favorite books fall under the catagory (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in particular). Over all, I avoid mystery novels.

Best book ever? The Girl who Played with Fire. Seriously... ever...

I've never been able to get into sci-fi book. It's better when it's a movie. But I love ghost stories. And for some reason, I really like those depressing books found in the teen section.  :P

According to the amount of books I read definitely stuff related to programming but a good Tom Clancy isn't bad either ;)

I almost exclusively read fiction although if I'm stuck somewhere and bored I'll read almost anything ;D ;D ;D

As for genres...
I read a lot of fantasy when I was younger, and still do, although these days I trend more toward things that could be termed fantasy but also fall under the "romance" category.  I also very much enjoy well-written mystery novels, although I have to budget how many of them I read, as I tend to get depressive if I read nothing but mysteries for a month.  Every now and then I'll pick up an intrigue fiction, and sometimes enjoy them but sometimes don't (if it's well-written then I usually do, but a lot of intrigue fiction really really skimps on character-building.  Seriously).  I generally find that I don't enjoy most Sci-fi, although some is really awesome.  I guess you could say if it's post-appocalyptic I'll give it a pass, but if it's future-funny I'll read it.  I also enjoy classic fiction, Brontés, Jane Austin, etc.  Dickens isn't bad but, once again, have to keep a strict limit on the amount I read as I tend to project and internalize the mood of what I read. but mostly I just read.  A lot.  I can get through a book in a day if I've nothing else to do, and read every single Harry Potter novel in under 24 hours as a straight go (yes, even the last one).

I also read quite a bit of fanfiction, although I'm VERY picky about it.  Some of the fanfiction authors are as good if not better than published writers (although DEFINITELY not all of them!)

Anyway, long, rambly discussion :P to sum up: I read.

That's exactly why I CAN'T read romance :(

Wait... all 7 books in a single day?!? Woah. That takes me weeks, but I never read for more than an hour or two at a time.

Oh, sorry, that was unclear.  each book in under 24 hours.  If I sat down to read them all (uninterrupted except for sleep) it would likely take me around 4-5 days.  The first three would definitely take much less than a day each, after all. 8)

Thaaaats more like it, lol ;). 4-5 days would still be really impressive. How many times have you read books 1-7? I did 1-5 probably upwards of 10-15 times, but have only done the entire series 5 times.

The only books I've ever reread have all been in the fantasy genera.

LOL coming to them as an adult, I was never that big of a HP fan.  I enjoyed them, and I do think her writing is good, but they just never enveloped me the way Tolkien's or Eddings' works did  ;)  I would say that I've read the first two maybe a couple of times, and the others once each - the day I bought them - but I consider them an essential part of a proper library :)

I think I first read them when I was 17ish. It's embarrassing to say, but Harry Potter accounts for nearly half my library... which doesn't include the superior (IMO) Lord of the Rings series.

wow.  XD My library is...er...substantially larger.  Presently it fits double-deep on five IKEA "Billy" bookshelves, and that's only the non-fiction.  That doesn't count reference books and whatnot. ;D

Like many of you, I'm also really into fantasy. :) It's what I've read all my childhood, and it is still my favourite genre today! :D However, school has allowed me to broaden my literary culture over the years, and I have also made some interesting discoveries on my own. As a result, now I enjoy reading mysteries, psychological stories, classical novels and many more genres as well. ;) I'm also a real fanfiction addict, to my own shame. xD

I am mostly into fantasy books and scifi, But i Like every genre. I like books with action but have a underlying puzzle that keeps the suspense going. I also enjoy autobiographys on musicians. But like i said i like every type of book.

I love activity books like puzzles,  science and nature stuff like national geographic and defenders of wildlife type of stuff for recreational reads. I read mostly about animal behavioral science involving wild canids through an ethological viewpoint and comparing them with canids from around the world and currently am on training and behavior and body language of the domestic dog.
In my younger years I enjoyed fantasy novels about unicorns and fairies, and romance novels.

I'm very much into sci-fi, especially dystopian works (being the cynical pessimist that I am).  I'm also a big fan of most types of fantasy fiction--I devoured the Harry Potter series.
