Okay twenty minutes ago my brother informed me that he needs me to make a website for him.

I'm fine with the basics but does anyone know any good tutorials for macromedia dreamweaver that cover more advance stuff?
Only mostly AWOL.

Depends what your aimng for.

I usually do my site design / layout in photoshop them transfer it into html, this way you know what your aiming to make and have a lot of the graphic elements already there.

One site im currently working on.

You could try: http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
W3Schools is my first place to go when I need to find out about HTML, they do most things from basic HTML to Java Script.

Notepad is awful! It can't even open files with UNIX line endings, and it loads all files into RAM, even huge obes!

Maybe so but Notepad still makes a great notepad for making quick notes.

I use Geany for most things, it does tabs, syntax highlighting, Unix formats and so on.

I kinda agree and notepad (for different reasons as well) is one of those simple apps that keeps me with Windows.

I HATE vim!!!
I couldn't get it to exit earlier, didn't think of typing :q! of course. :o
The one thing you can't do sensibly on a command line, write text!!!

Give nano a try - it's easier for beginners, and for people who can't be bothered to learn vim like me ;)

DW. That is everybody's response when they first use vim, but once you start to understand its ways, you will realise that it is actually very beautiful to work with.

For a new user, give 'vimtutor' a try first, just be sure to actually learn the key commands to get the most out of vim (well anything at all).

Nano looks a lot friendlier, thanks. I didn't have to use the web to work out to get started with it. :D
I understand the idea of software with a steep learning curve and high efficiency, as Blender is a lot like that, but for simply editing a text file, I really don't want to have to bother. :P

nano is great. I use it a lot for doing config stuff on my servers. It follows the KISS principle ;)

I used to hate vi with a passion, I would always use nano instead, but now vi has grown on me and I find I use it most of the time now...

I hate vim too, prefer nano ... fortunately I only have one Linux (Kubuntu) system in the house right now (a laptop that for some inexplicable reason will not work with any version of Windows including the default supplied XP Home one).
