Why?

I do have 2 systems capable of reading them (and an envelope full of blank disks): A Pentium 2 with Win98, and an AMD "586" (basically a P1 clone) with DOS 6.22/WFWG 3.11.

Anyone remember the combo drives that fit in a single 5.25" bay and read both 3.5" and 5.25" disks?
Still have some old SW (and old HW of course) ;)
And we had such a combo drive but it broke some years ago...
They aren't the most robust thing in the world. I still have a working one in the AMD 586 though. I think it came from a curbed or garage sale system.

As for old SW/HW...I've also got a pretty good stock laying around.

Tech school had a system with two Slot A P3s. No clue on speed...it was an old server that mostly sat and collected dust.

Newer P3s were like today's processors (went in a ZIF socket).

Still have a P3 700 (Slot 1) with an Asus P3C-E and 512 MB RDRAM (freaking expensive Rambus) ^^

I'm a bit guilty to the last one, at least with some machine. And a machine I serviced earlier was highly guilty ^^

BOFH is hilarious! (Though I hope it's all made up... well, most of it at least)

Dusty PCs...ugh, some of those were nasty. My old PC that's being used as a server looked like some of those.

Took it apart a few hours ago and cleaned it out. It's been running since January.

I haven't booted up my half-server in ages.
And it's dusty as all hell.

"Back in the days when the floppy disks where actually floppy" ;D

Random fact: In the city where I go to school there is a street called "Floppydisk street".

It's fictional, but inspired by reality :)

Dirty vs. weird: (true story) when in a tech class, we were cleaning out computers, and some of them were a little dusty, however a couple things we managed to find inside a couple computers: writing utensils and someone's Japanese homework ???

Sram, school computers... ;D :P

This site contains pictures of people unable to build computers (we call it DAU "Dümmster Anzunehmender User" - sth. like dumbest computer users living on this planet): DAU Alaram
It's in German but you can still have a look at the pictures (click "Gallery" and then select a category. I guess you will know what it is as soon as you see it)
Some of those are just... what :P
