Sorry for my question, don't misunderstand me but what type of applications are you going to install on your new PC so you want 6GB ram? (I realize it is not only for games because with 6GB ram you have to install win7 x64 and most of the games are suitable for x32).
I have 24 GB ram installed on mine because I run 3d animation programs (creating animations with 3ds max) and editing programs (Avid and Edius). [Of course i have left only 2 GB virtual memory (page file) because my C is only 73 GB and I would have problem with my disk space].

Maybe he's planning to use his computer and have the possibility of running several applications at the same time without any slowdown? And the possibility to launch games without having to close unessesary applications first.

Also, there is no truth whatsoever in that 64bit operating systems are worse for games than 32bit systems. It's a myth, kept alive by the same people that are embracing Widnows XP and refuse to upgrade to Vista/7.

If there is something to be questioned with his new setup it's the face that it's an alienware, since they're expensive in the same way as Apple is, but they deliver plastic "gamer" chassis instead of clean aluminium..

I agree with you. And I have no problem with games despite of running in 64 bit with antiallising and shades on maximum.

the most I can get is 8 GB RAM, but If I am going to get higher than 8 GB RAM, I need to get it installed in the computer

If you are using >4GB, you will need a 64-bit operating system, a 32-bit can only address 4GB, and part of that won't usable to the OS itself due to it being used for the PCI bus, you will generally get ~3.5GB actually usable.

The very most memory a 64-bit OS can address is 16EB, or 16,800,000 TB (16,800,000,000 GB) - this is ~1.5x the total content of ALL human knowledge and data, ever ;D , although in practice, the different 64-bit versions of Windows have a hard limit between 8GB and 192GB.

Yeah, I know a system that wastes 16GB of RAM because Win 2008 Standard has a limit of 32 GB but the system it's running on has 48GB

In my experience, 512MB is just enough for a usable WinXP system. How well does Win7 perform on that?

Along with that video card upgrade, you may want to consider getting more RAM.

Win 7 ultimate on a PC with only 512 Mb ram? How can it be? (Of course you can't use AERO. If you say that you use AERO it would be a surprise for me). ???

My laptop used to run Win7 on 512Mb RAM comfortably, with Aero.

:D

Tirea Atstunwi

You didn't disable Aero and it runs normaly with only 512 Mb ram? NANG!!!!!!!!!!

Sіr. Ηaxalot

It works, but it might not be recommended :P

I think that Windows 8 is supposed to run perfectly with everything enabled on 256MB RAM, at least the ARM version.

Actually, it runs quite well since there's no internet on it (I'll be running e-webs on it soon anyways). And no, I can't use Aero, but that's what the video card takes care of. That's why it has it's own little integration of RAM (It too will have 512mb when I get it). But besides that, it runs quite well. It's just a bathroom break to let Flash Pro CS5.5 boot up.

Double posting from crappy phone, so I got confirmation that my graphics card arrived today, and I also found out my desktop is actually 504mb RAM. 8 less than I thought.

Human No More

That could be due to a difference in units, or memory being reserved for the PCI bus. Actual physical memory modules are always manufactured in powers of two.
