Okay, so I tried to get that graphics card in. From my last thread by this one, it didn't go so well.

I'm thinking of buying two servers with AMD Phenom II X6 and 16GB of RAM and use my current server as a storage backend (adding 4x 2TB disks in RAID-5/Z with 1 host spare giving 4TB of storage). With that I would build a VMWare cluster with 12 cores and 32GB RAM.

Final price: $2000.

What would I use it for? Primarly Gameserver hosting, but with 32GB of RAM there's a s*** of space to play around with other VMs.

How did it not go well? We need more information than that to help :P

WOW Perfect! If I had your servers, I would connect them with my PC (core i7 2.66GHz, 24GB ram... etc. I described it above). And I would create a render farm. I would not needed to wait so long if I want to render something with 3ds max. ;)

It works fine now, let's just say I misread instructions and practically re-formatted my hard drive.

Not to be negative, but have you considered upgrading your CPU?

I'm planning on waiting for Ivy bridge and socket 2011 and then do a major update. I'm also planning on having a job to bring in enough monies until then :)

Computer's dead. Again. >.>

I'm actually considering downgrading to Vista because Se7en isn't installing right.

guest2859

Well, I got it fixed. I installed Se7en on slave drive and then just ran a scan-and-repair on my main. I'm back on it now, but I need to get a second monitor so I can manage from both hard drives and be able to see startup.

-----Edit----

And now it's shot again.

Why not just keep going right to XP then?  8)

Because that's stupid? I would think about researching the reason to why W7 isn't installing right though, it could be underlyuing problems with the hardware (it usually is).

Cool, another Phenom II x4 user :) I have a 940 myself. 3Ghz, but if I clock it I can get 3.2 out of it. System would probably also be faster if I ran something newer than Windows XP.

Also, I really need a video card...a Geforce 8300 isn't cutting it anymore.

Yeah, my CPU also is "Black Edition" with unlocked frequency multiplier. I saw in reviews that people overclock this CPU at 3.8GHz :) But now I don't need it..

I'm not sure about this.. I think a performance in XP would be higher than in Vista and Seven. Look here: http://www.overclockers.com/windows-xp-vs-windows-7-benchmarks/

I've forgotten if mine is. IIRC I did see an option to change my multiplier, but I usually just boost the FSB.

Which is why I haven't upgraded. Not sure how much improvement 64-bit would make though. Win7 feels slow when I've used it on other systems...

Also would be nice for F@H. An 8300 is a MoBo integrated card, so it takes 20+ minutes per 1% :o
