Xen + kernel-default-4.15.0 + Intel CPU = kernel panic

I don't know if you have ever tried out virtualization (Xen on Linux, to be more precise), but the mitigation of the Meltdown problem seems to incur a problem:

If Xen is run in conjunction with the 4.15.0 kernel on an Intel CPU, the kernel exits with a kernel panic: Looks like something is going entirely haywire within the hypervisor due to the Meltdown mitigation (microcode update plus PTI). :facepalm:
Doing the same thing on AMD works just fine.
