sucks. At least to learn.

I don't know it. The evilst thing I have done so far is assembly language... o0

I call Ruby the "mutant love-child of Perl and Smalltalk."  It has the nasty parse tree of perl, but none of the deep power of Smalltalk.

Assembly IS fun. Though I've only ever done 6502.

Which?

I find Ruby's 'everything is an object' mentality interesting, but do feel that it can get in the way of actually writing the program (though still quicker than writing a C program to do scripting jobs!).

Nah, BBC Micro. It's so much nicer to program on than any other computer of its time, believe me (built-in assembler anyone?)

As I recall (and I could well be wrong) so did the VIC20 ... that said I always wanted a BBC if only for Elite & Chucky Egg!

Nah, you would have had to have loaded one from tape or cartridge. (possible record for number of forms of "to have" in the same clause adjacent to each other? And no, "James, while John had had 'had', had had 'had had'. 'Had had' had had a better effect on the teacher" doesn't count.)
