You need now to upgrade your Java, and it is highly recommended you do it. If you have version 10, you need to upgrade to version 11. There has been a security hole in version 10. that could make other people take control of your computer, if you came to a wrong website

If anybody suddenly get a notice that you need to download Java on your web browser, don't apply it. It contains malicious hardware.

Instead, download from the official site to Java: http://java.com/en/

Useful page for tracking Java: http://java-0day.com/

My recommendation: Use NoScript / Flashblock and only enable Java / Flash on a per-item basis for pages you trust rather than letting anywhere run them.

I used to have Java, but then I got a notice that Java had an update. I had them upload it, and I had a Bing toolbar which spoiled my view of things on my screen, so I uninstalled Java. My firewall / antivirus has me in a sandbox whenever I am on the web, so no one really gets into by computer unless I invite them in, and that doesn't mean visiting their sites.
