OS requires 1GB of RAM or even 2GB if that's 64 bit! It's too much, IMO. And it's only for system, not for applications.

what do you have?

and think this is only beta
think when it is going to be a full release

including screen resolution 1024x768 and better is required
If it is lower than that, only the traditional Windows desktop can be used

I wouldn't call this "Beta"...it's more like an Alpha. MS's official name for it is "Developer Preview". I've been trying to download the 32-bit version, but my wireless network reception sucks, so it failed 3 times. >:( 40% done on its 4th try as I type this...

As for 1GB/2GB of RAM just for the OS...that is a bit ridiculous.

look here, it's Windows 8, it requires a lot, maybe because of the advanced technology

this is the same on Windows 7 too

I have 2 GB RAM and I have a Windows 7 32-bit

...and that's one of the reasons I'm still running XP...the system I'm on now could handle Win7 easily, but pretty much every other system in the house can't.

In other news...my Win8 download just finished :)

AFAIK Win 8 has the same requirements as Win 7 - but it is supposed to be a bit faster than its ancestor. So if your PC is running Win 7 it will probably run Win 8 fine, too.

Win8 is installing in VirtualBox as I type, but I think the installer froze at 96% :(

Say what you want about the Metro UI and non-touchscreen devices, but their new Bluescreen is definately awesome:

Weird...the news site I follow actually recommended VirtualBox if you planned to use a VM.

I reran the installer and it finished fine the second time around. Works, but it freezes randomly. IE works well enough to use though (I browsed LN with it... :) )

The ribbon in Explorer isn't as bad as I thought it'd be, but it really does need to be made optional. Same for Metro. Its touch-oriented interface is impractical as the main UI for a standard non-touch desktop PC. Using it with a mouse is...awkward.

their new Bluescreen is definately awesome:

Agreed...haven't managed to crash my VM yet though (it prefers freezing), so haven't gotten it myself.

To be honest I don't think that the Metro UI will be that intrusive on a normal installation. This release seems to be customly crafted to help developers that want to develop a Tablet app.

If the ribbon feels to intrusive you can collapse it:

You can find more screenshots I take from Win 8 here: http://files.wp7board.com/index.php?dir=windows8

About the bluescreen, I got it while trying to install it in VMWare. Apparantly I need a later (major) version of VMWare to install Windows 8. It worked great on my laptop though.

Well, it is a "Developer's Preview", and not a beta, so this is possibly the case.

Nice to know. It doesn't bother me when collapsed :) Just didn't see that tiny arrow in the corner before...

I especially like the updated task manager...sort of like a cross between the XP/Vista/7 task manager and Process Explorer.

Ah...I was wondering if it was a VM.

I'm tempted to try Win8 in Virtual PC 2007...I used VBox because it has more options and better graphics support, but VPC2007 is about 2x faster.

EDIT: The closest I've come to crashing Win8 was managing to get it to crash VBox:

EDIT2: I think Win8 hosed itself during the crash. It boots up, but I can't log in. The mountains with the clock appear, but clicking/dragging it doesn't make it fly off the screen so I can log in.

As a result, I discovered the new F8 Menu...it looks like: http://i52.tinypic.com/x0rwrb.png. System Restore to earlier today fixed the login issue.

Yeah, those new menus are fancy! I also like the fact that it actually asks for your password before giving away full admin access to your computer. As opposed to Mac OS X which gives you root access, no questions asked.

I can safely say that I'm still not a fan of Metro...

User interfaces that are designed for hardware that over 90% of PCs lack, only show one program at a time, require extensive relearning, and are awkward to use with a mouse simply have no business being on a desktop PC.

I can see it being nice on tablets though. :)

Also, I don't use my PC just for typing word documents, gaming, and browsing the web...but I feel that Metro suggests that MS thinks I do.

Me as well. I don't want to use a tablet-optimized GUI on a PC. It is just like having a full screen start menu, making kilometers with the mouse to reach elements.

It's one of the worst OSes  I've ever used, down there with win95/3.1 and mac os. If MS don'x fix it, I'll be moving to Linux when Win7 becomes inviable.
